Lullabies

Sleep, my darling, I will tell you a story.
A story so true,
Of a man so strong,
Just like you.
He could lift up cows and fill up the barn just alone,
He could drink ale
And dance with the men.
But he had a secret,
Just to himself.

Oh, he liked paper crowns, and jewelry and he liked pretty flowers and boys in jeans.
Oh, he'll tell me his story,
His story seemed unreal.
But I listened,
I listened a great deal.
His story had knights with sad tears
And queens who rose up
Without any fear.
Of a mother,
Fleeing the house made of dirty cups,
Of punches and bruises
And other things such.
Oh he was brave,
But you may not think so,
I don't know why.
But I will tell you what they thought.

Oh they called him names,
Of a bundle of sticks.
The sticks burned and burned,
Became darkening snow.
Called him snowflakes,
I do not know why.
Oh! These names kill,
Kill they do,
I was scared for the little man,
Who liked sunflowers and dew.
The man was strong,
He was strong in his own way.
Oh, I hope the rope didn't burn his neck.
Now, sleep my child,
And sleep tight.
I will stay by your side,
Oh, my child
I hope you understood the sufferings.
I hope you will be okay.

To the man of lullabies!
