Emerging from hyperspace, and nearly getting killed flying through Anakin's "shortcut," the Shadow Squadron was ready to track down and destroy Grievous.
"See? Told you guys that would work," I could almost hear the arrogant smirk on his face.
"What a success, we barely survived," I rolled my eyes. How many times is Anakin's reckless ass going to try and get me killed? I don't know how my luck hasn't run out yet. This man's ability to escape death is simply unmatched.
"Well-" His comeback was interrupted by one of the clones with urgent information.
"Sir, we have a contact! A ship coming out of hyperspace - the Malevolence." Without time to blink, we were in the middle of a battle. Fighters came racing through our squadron, forcing us to weave around the hundreds of blaster bolts.
A pit appeared in my stomach. This situation felt all too familiar. Oh no, they're going to weaken our defenses and then hit us with the ion blast. But this time, no one would come to save us. And Master Yoda was right, my intuition never lies- the cannon fired, charging straight for us.
Anakin's voice came through the comm, "Everyone, pull up! Give it everything you've got!" We managed to clear the blast, but five clones failed to make it in time. It hurts to lose good men, and I've found that is something the Jedi do not understand. They are not just pawns in their war, they are people too.
Although we were left with almost half the squadron we started with, Anakin continued to follow his plan. Ahsoka yelled over the radio, "Master, this isn't working!"
"Hang in there, Ahsoka, we can make it," he yelled back with his usual confidence.
I spoke up, "Skywalker, if we target the ion cannon instead, enough damage can overload it when it tries to fire!"
There was a brief pause. "....well, you heard the Commander boys." The ships began to change direction as Anakin led the way. It took me a moment to shake off the surprise that he actually listened to me for once.
Our torpedos were launched once we were in range, just as the ion cannon was recharging its next blast. As we sped away, a large explosion erupted on the side of the Malevolence, our mission a success.
We headed over to dock at the medical center, while Master Kenobi and the rest of the republic cruisers that recently arrived for reinforcements went after Grievous. I'd never officially met General Kenobi but I've heard only wonderful things from Ahsoka and Plo. I can't believe someone as respected as him trained the asshole that is Anakin Skywalker.
"It looks like I saved your ass this time," I called up to Anakin as he climbed out of his fighter.
"And to think, I was just about to compliment you," he returned my sarcastic expression.
The voice of my master interjected, "Whether either of you wants to admit it or not, you two are undeniably natural leaders, and you work well together." Anakin and I shot each other a disgusted look, and Plo and Ahsoka shared a laugh.
"Anyway, General Skywalker and I must speak with the head of the medical station. You two can relax for a bit before the coming battle," my master said before he and Anakin left Ahsoka and I in the hangar. I chuckled to myself and Ahsoka looked over at me.
"You know, when I first met Anakin, he reminded me a lot of you, Vienna," she said.
I raised my eyebrows, prompting her to continue. "Headstrong, confident, annoying at times."
"Hey!" I hit her playfully. "But if we're so alike, why can't we get along? Why is he always such a jerk to me?"
"I guess it's how he shows he cares."
"Well if that's true, he certainly doesn't act like it," I shrugged. I don't know a lot of things, but I am positive about one thing. Anakin Skywalker does not care about me.

Ahsoka and I met back up with our masters, who were conversing with General Kenobi. They turned to us.
"I don't believe we've yet met, Commander," the famous Jedi said, giving me a friendly smile. He looked about mid-thirties, but his well kept beard made him appear old and wise.
"Vienna Kryze," I politely bowed, "I'm so honored to finally make your acquaintance, Master Kenobi." I could feel Anakin rolling his eyes next to me, unable to face the fact that I can actually be nice to people.
"No need to be so formal. Call me Obi-Wan," he shook his head. "And... you said Kryze? As in-"
"The Mandalorians, yes. I am the niece of Duchess Satine. You know her?" I was confused. Their paths must have briefly crossed on a mission or something, because I reckon my mother would have mentioned knowing Obi-Wan. She said she knew very little of the Jedi before finding out I was force-sensitive, other than disagreeing with their 'violent ways.' But of course I couldn't bring this up with Master Kenobi, because as far as anyone else knew, she was only my aunt.
"Yes....I know her," his smile faltered for an almost unnoticeable second, and I thought I felt a twinge of...guilt...regret...in his words. I wanted to ask more, but was interrupted by the Admiral urgently entering the room.
"General, their hyperdrive is damaged. We must strike now before they get it back online!"
Anakin and Obi-Wan shared a quick glance, and Anakin spoke up.
"Alright everyone, I have a plan," he announced.
"Oh, boy," I said under my breath, but his glare told me he heard it.
"Don't worry, it's a good plan," he called over the clones. "Squadron, get back into your ships. We're going to have to blow it up from the inside." The men nodded and everyone got ready.
I headed over to my fighter when a hand tapped me on the shoulder. Turning around, I met Anakin's sarcastic smirk.
"Hey, try not to almost die and make me save you this time."
"Now where's the fun in that?" I winked and climbed into my ship.
—
Our plan was to split up, each of us Jedi taking a different path around the Malevolence, and rendezvous at the emergency airlock behind the ship- another crazy idea of Anakin's that surely wouldn't work. But with my luck, it's always me who nearly gets killed in the process, but I'm trying to stay positive for once.
We took off from the republic cruiser and went our separate ways. I flew as discreetly as possible through the wreckage, and was nearly to the docking platform, when my fighter abruptly stopped. I was giving it full power, but it was no use. The ship was being pulled backwards; I was caught in a tractor beam.
Looking over my shoulder, I could see a glimpse of the hangar I was being pulled to, and it was clearly not the where I intended to land, for the one who stood waiting for me was none other than General Grievous.
