"Soooo, Rolaaand," Delilah began one morning two days after they had arrived in Paris. "I think we need to talk about something." Pausing mid-bite into his toast, Roland looked hesitantly at her.
"Hm, I seem to remember the last time you asked to talk about something," he said as he smiled mischievously and replaced his toast on the plate.
"Yesss and think about how well that turned out," she returned giving him an adoring look. His face began to near hers and she was ready for the kiss that he was about to give her but he suddenly pulled back once he remembered where they were.
They were sitting across each other at a table for six, eating a small breakfast while waiting for the rest of the gang to get there. The place was extremely crowded to where almost every table was filled to the brink, mostly with Tears for Fears fans. Four people had already asked for Roland's autograph that morning.
"Ok, you've convinced me. What's on your mind?" he asked with a look at his watch and then out the window. Manny had specifically told them all to meet up there at 9 o'clock sharp but it was already 9:45.
"Well," she said stirring her coffee in contemplation, "I was just wondering when we should tell the band that...you know" she glanced around and then said in a whisper, "we're together." Roland sighed.
"Why would we even want to tell anyone though? I thought you were ok with keeping it a secret." It was now Delilah's turn to sigh.
"Roland, you know I am, but I just keep having the sneaking suspicion that they're onto us. Especially Curt." She placed her hand on his arm and looked at him sympathetically. "He's your best friend. Don't you think that he deserves to know?"
"Yes of course I do. But it's not him that I'm concerned about and you know that." Delilah then nodded her head, in full knowing of who he meant as he continued. "I mean, you know how poorly Nicky reacted when she first learnt that you were staying with us. She freaked out because she thought you were just a crazy fan trying to hang out with us. But now that were dating," he lowered his voice at the word, "she might become suspicious of you, ya know. Think that you're just trying to date me because I'm famous." Delilah closed her eyes and sighed in disappointment. "You understand though right?" he asked placing his hand on her knee. "It is not that I am embarrassed of you or because I truly want to keep our relationship secret. It's just, I'm afraid that telling anybody right now might cause problems that neither you or I need." To that, Delilah silently nodded.
"Yes I understand. I don't want you to have any problems with your band. That wouldn't be good on tour." At that, a look of relief crossed Roland's face.
"Thank you for understanding love. But please, just know that if I could, right here, right now," he leaned in closer to her, "I would go up to the highest point in Paris and yell to the whole world that you're my girlfriend," Delilah swooned at the word, "and that I love you."
"I love you too," she whispered. "And I'm so glad that we're together." With one last look of adoration the couple smiled at each other and then glanced over to see Manny and the others walking through the door. They scooted over for them.
"Yo, yo yo! Hey Delilah, long time no see! Manny cried scooting in next to her and draping a friendly arm over her shoulder. She giggled as Roland watched him suspiciously.
"Manny, we just talked yesterday. We passed each other in the hall this morning." Manny laughed and then pulled her closer. Nicky's icy glare returned and closed in on Delilah, suffocating her.
"I know. Just with you running around with Roland all the time now I feel like I never get to see you guys anymore." He tipped his head towards Roland and then raised his eyebrows. "What's going on with that-".
"So, what is it that you wanted to tell us?" Roland interrupted gaining an annoyed look from Manny. "I mean you're late so it must be something big."
"Hey I was asking you a question before you interrupted me-" Manny tried to speak again but it was Ian's turn to interrupt.
"It is definitely huge and you won't believe it!" he exclaimed with a smile. "The whole band of Tears for Fears just got invited to a party that is dedicated to us in celebration of our massive success around the world!" At that, the whole table exploded in glee.
"Omg really?" cried Nicky.
"That's incredible!" Curt said.
"Wait, when did this happen?" questioned Roland.
"Late last night," answered Manny apparently over his offense towards Roland for interrupting him earlier. "Right as I was going to bed a French music producer, I forget his name now, called me and said that since we were here in Paris he wanted to throw a party in our honor and also invite a bunch of other bands to celebrate." Grinning widely, Manny looked over at Nicky and then kissed her on the check which made her beam. Oh thank God thought Delilah glad to finally escape the look that could kill.
"So, when's this amazing party supposed to happen?" Roland asked with a smirk. Delilah caught the tone in his voice and sent him a look. He saw it but ignored her.
"Tonight at 8 p.m. Just outside of the town of Paris."
"Wow, that's really short notice," Curt exclaimed. Roland was about to say something but then Ian cut in.
"Well then we'd better hurry! Roland, Curt, Manny, you come with me to the shop down the street so that we can buy some actual nice clothes rather than just wearing baggy sweaters and jeans to the party." He directed the comment at Curt and Roland who glanced at each other. "And Delilah." She looked up at Ian. "You and Nicky go to the dress shop and pick yourself out something nice. I'll pay for it."
"Oh!" cried Nicky. "No, no we've got plenty of nice stuff. We'll be fine..."
"Don't be silly. Delilah does not have anything nice to wear."
"You've got that right," Nicky retorted. Delilah snorted at her.
"Ok so it's settled. The guys are going to go get suits and the gals are going to get dresses." Ian smiled and Nicky almost looked like she wanted to protest again but he continued. "Alright people, chop chop. We've got a party to get ready for."
