"Hey!" a shout echoed across the forest, and Daypaw whipped her head around, while Skyheart arched her back and hissed.
"Who's there?" Daypaw called, scanning the area. She unsheathed her claws.
"Woah, Fritz! Look!" a tabby and white she-cat was perched on a twoleg fence, and a tabby tom sat right next to her, though he was much less gracefully. But both of their amber eyes were shining.
Daypaw opened her mouth and the scents of Twolegplace flooded her. She hadn't realised they were this close to the twolegplace!
"I can see, Clara." the tabby tom muttered, wobbling on the wooden fence. He straightened up and grinned. "Are you WILD cats?" he asked.
Skyheart's gaze softened. "Look, Daypaw. They can't be much more then sixteen moons. "They're just apprentices."
Daypaw tilted her head at the two young cats. "They're a bit younger than I am." she pointed out thoughtfully. "But they don't look mean enough to be rouges or loners."
Clara flicked a white paw over her ear. "You're the from the same group as the other two - aren't you?"
Daypaw eyed them warily. "What do you mean?"
Fritz jumped down and landed on his back. A few seconds later, he rolled over and crashed into the fence, causing Clara to wobble and topple onto him, and they lay in a dazed heap before scrambling apart to sit up and gaze at the to ThunderClan cats.
"There were two other cats here before!" Fritz bounced on his hindpaws, which were black 0n the back of them. "A dark brown tom and a black she-cat!"
"Oh yeah, we were sitting on our Kitty Sil, - "
"What is that?" Skyheart interrupted, obviously confused.
"Oh it's this cushy thing that the housefolk attach to the windowsill. WE get an AMAZING view of the whole neighborhood." Fritz answered. He pointed to a fluffy white/grey thing on the window on the house behind him.
"But anyway, we were sitting on our Kitty Sil , relaxing, when this rustling - " Fritz began.
"- came from the bushes and then we all looked at it and then - "Clara pushed her brother aside and told the story.
"There was a mottled dark brown tom with blue eyes and a scar on his ear and - "
"- We looked at him and he looked at us and he said ' - "
"- 'Hey, kittypets. You look like good hunters. Wanna join our Clan?' And we - "
"- ran away because we were really scared. And then a few weeks later there was a - "
"- Black she-cat with gold eyes and she was hiding underneath a bush over there and she was there for a few weeks and - "
"- And out owners set out food for her every night and watched her. Then she left. " Clara finished.
"Black she-cat with gold eyes?" Daypaw murmured. "Shadowmist did go missing for a few weeks. And that sounds like her."
"How young was the she-cat?" Skyheart asked the two.
"I dunno." Fritx shrugged. "It was 'bout a season ago, in the spring. But she was pretty young."
"That's Shadowmist." Skyheart turned back to Daypaw. "And mottled brown tom with blue eyes and a scar on his ear sounds like Barkpelt."
Daypaw turned towards the forest, then back to the twolegplaceto see a small tabby face with gleaming amber eyes right up in her face. "Take us with you!" Fritz begged.
"Oh yeah!" Clara pleaded. "Please? Please please please please PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE?"
"No." Skyheart said firmly. "Do you twolegs know you're out here?"
"Twolegs?" they looked puzzled for a moment. "Oh, you mean the owners?"
"Yes, do they know you are out here?" Skyheart repeated.
"Uhh ..... erm ...... um ......" The muttered, shifting their paws.
"We're technically not supposed to be out here ...." Clara grinned sheepishly.
"But we'll be fine. No one will know!" Fritz giggled. "I go hiding in the house all the time. They always think I got out, when I'm really inside. It's hilarious."
Daypaw nodded her head, a little impressed with the intelligiance of their anitcs.
"But then they get really worried and some of them start crying and they don't eat or sleep - just numbly walk along the streets, calling our name." Clara stared at her paws. "I got out once, while they were watching the big flashy box. They were out for hours, and didn't eat or sleep. It was really late when I got back home. Fritz told me that they had been so upset. I still feel really guilty."
Fritz wrinkled his face up. "Then they made us put on those awful collars. I got red, Clara got blue. " he smirked proudly. "Mine was off and hidden underneath the couch in a matter of days. They didn't find it for months."
Daypaw tilted her head. Although they were kittypets, and their young brains came up with all kinds of stupid ideas, they seemed rather intelligent and smart. They also seemed light on their feet and good hunters.
"Oh and three days ago I caught a mouse!" Fritz puffed out his chest proudly.
Daypaw wondered if he read her mind.
"It was hiding underneath the dishwasher, and it had been for a few days. I was lying in my hunters crouch, just like this." he demonstrated a rather tilted hunters crouch, but good all the same. "It was nighttime," he continued. "And then the mouse came out and I leaped and chased after it, and I caught it! I almost dropped it on my humans face, but Clara stopped me. "
Clara muttered something they couldn't hear, before bouncing over to Skyheart. "Please show us you base!"
"Camp." Daypaw corrected, but turned to Skyheart. "Come on, it would be a good experience for them!"
"PLEAAAAAASE!" Fritz pleaded.
Skyheart groaned. "I guess it couldn't hurt."
PLEASE NOTE: Most of the events in this chapter, except for Fritz and Clara meeting Skyheart. I did not make up a mottled brown tom passing by or a young black she-cat with gold eyes that lived in a bush for a few weeks just for plotline purposes.
Also, Fritz and Clara are my actual cats. I made their age as accurate as possible, and I tried to accurately describe them too.
