Chapter 1 - Uncle Stefan
3rd Person POV
“Maria, have you found something else on the girl?”A man asks, coming into Maria’s office and sitting down on a chair next to her.
“I think I found some people who could be related to her”Maria says, letting out a small sigh before continuing, “I went into her moms info, email, to find anyone that she could’ve been speaking to before she died.”
“And did you find anyone?”he asked getting closer to her. “I think I did. There was something she wrote but she never sent it”Maria says.
“Well what did it say?”he asks. “It looks like she never finished it but I got a little bit. I’ll show you here”she says going to her computer and typing something before it showed up on the screen.
“Right here. It says, ‘we are not safe anymore. I know you don’t know me but I know you. Your a uncle and I know that it’s probably weird for you because you know but I have something to tell you but we can’t talk here’ and I’m guessing she was talking about how she wants to tell whoever this is about her daughter”Maria says.
“Well do you know where this guy is?”The guy asks. “The only thing I got was name”Maria said. “What was the name?”the guy asks.
“Stefan Salvatore”She says. “Isn’t Salvatore a name in that town a few miles away in Mystic Falls?”The guy asks. “Mhm. I think we found Scarlett’s uncle”Maria says with a smile and looks at the guy.

Maria was walking around the place and stopped by the door that Scarlett is staying in and knocked.
When Scarlett doesn’t say anything Maria opens the door and Scarlett looks down at the floor and Maria and sits down on the bed.
“Get your stuff ready in your suitcase”Maria says. And Scarlett says quiet and looking down at the ground. “We found your family”Maria said.
“I found your uncle”Maria said. And Scarlett’s eyebrows furrow together and she looks at Maria. “So I’m going to go with him?”Scarlett asks softly. “Yes. We have a long ride ahead of us. Get ready” Maria says and leaves out of the room and Scarlett starts putting her clothes in her suitcase.

They are in the car and Scarlett is in the back seat, holding her head with both of her arms wrapped around it and close to her chest.
She is looking out of the window and looking at everything that passes by.
Scarlett hesitates before speaking, “Is my uncle my mommy’s brother?”Scarlett asks. “Uh...no. Your uncle is not your moms brother”Maria says remembering that in the email Janet said that Stefan Salvatore didn’t know her so that can’t make him her moms brother.
“He’s your fathers brother”Maria says. “My dad?”Scarlett asks. “I’ve never met my dad. Mommy told me my daddy isn’t here with us anymore”Scarlett said. “I couldn’t find your dad but I found you uncle. I’m sure he’ll take you in”Maria says and Scarlett nods her head, “Ok.”
They passed a sign that said: Welcome to Mystic Falls.
Maria parked the car. “We’re here.” Scarlett looks out of the window and sees a big house.
Maria get out of the car and opens Scarlett’s door and unbuckles Scarlett out of her car seat.
‘I’m seven years old why do I have a car seat’ Scarlett asks herself.
Maria takes Scarlett’s suitcase and brings it along with them.
“Come on”Maria says, putting her hand out for Scarlett to hold and Scarlett just stared at it weirdly and Maria just puts her hand back to her side and walks to the door of the house in silence.
Maria knocks on the door a few times before a man opens it.
“Hello?”The man asks, looking down at Scarlett for a moment which causes her to put her head down and then he looks back up at the lady.
“Hi my name is Maria Chavez. I’m a social worker. Are you Stefan Salvatore?”Maria asks.
“I’m Stefan’s uncle, Zachary Salvatore. Hold on a moment I’ll get him”Zach says and leaves for a moment and comes back with Stefan.
“Hello. My name is Maria. I’m a social worker”She says and puts her hand out for him to shake and he does so. “Hi. It’s nice to meet you. You can come inside”Stefan says and Maria comes inside and Scarlett follows her.

“So I don’t know if you’ve heard but...I don’t know how to explain this but Scarlett here is an orphan and we looked through her moms stuff and we got information and what we got is that you are her uncle”Maria tells Stefan.
“Uncle?”he asks. “Yes. There was an email her mom was going to send a message to you and all I know is that she wanted to meet up with you and tell you something and in it, it said that you are Scarlett’s uncle”Maria said.
“But then that’d mean-“Stefan says and Maria cuts him off, “-that your brother Damon has a daughter. Yes I know.”
“That’s impossible”Zach says and Maria looks at them weirdly.
“Um...so we were hoping that you’d take her in”Maria says and Stefan looks down at Scarlett for a moment and Scarlett stared at him.
‘It’s impossible. But she looks so much like Damon. No one can deny that and if she is in fact my niece I wouldn’t want her in an orphanage’ Stefan thinks to himself.
“Sure...yeah. We’ll take her in”Stefan says and Maria smiles and gives Scarlett her suitcase.
“If you need anything here’s my number”Maria says and smiles at Stefan before leaving.
“She so liked you”Scarlett mutters to herself. Stefan bends down on his knees and looks up at Scarlett, “Hi. I’m Stefan.” “Yeah. I heard your name like a thousand times today.”
“Oh yeah right”Stefan says and Zach lets out a chuckle. “Come on I’ll show you to your room”Stefan says and she follows Stefan upstairs.
‘So this is where I’m going to be living with?. Who I am going to be living with?. My uncle and his uncle Zachary?’ Scarlett thinks to herself.
“Oh boy”She mutters to herself slowly and follows Stefan into her new room.
