Darkness

I sigh in frustration as I the throw my dark purple suitcase in the trunk of my parents car. It's 4:30 in the morning but its humid which isn't helping my mood at all. I pull my hair which is almost to my butt high into a ponytail.
"Why can't I stay home again?" I ask my mom as I climb into the back the car and slam the door behind me. My thighs stick to the grey leather when I sit down. I mutter a silent eww and wished I wore pants instead of my mini shorts.
My mom looks up from her phone and sighs, turning around fixing her piercing blue gaze on me.
"You know why and your father coming so I suggest you get rid of that attitude before he gets in the car." Her annoyance is clear in her voice and I know the conversations over. I cross my pale arms and look out the window.
I see my dad walking down the drive towards our car, the keys swinging from his fingers.
"Hello loving family!" He sings as he climbs into the car and kisses mom on the cheek.
I'm annoyed by his good mood so I grumble a half hearted 'hey' and put my neon green earbuds in. I don't have any music on do I can listen to their conversation.
"What's gotten her into a mood?" Asks my dad.
I don't dare look in case they know I'm eavesdropping but I can almost see my mom rolling her eyes.
"She's still mad about being forced to go on vacation with us." My mom answers simply.
In the reflection in the window I see my dad shake his almost bald head. "Well maybe she shouldn't have thrown that party and trashed the house.
I grit my teeth together and force my anger away. It's not like it was a huge part it was just a couple of friends, who invited a couple of friends, who invited a couple of friends... Yah you get the point, and this got a little out of hands. It's not like it was MY fault. I didn't invite all those people. "Are you going to start the car or what?" I snap. My dad rolls his eyes and put the key in the ignition.
As we pull out of the drive I glance up at our beautiful stone house and feel a twinge of sadness when I see all the windows dark. I say a silent goodbye. For some reason I have a feeling we won't be coming back in awhile but I push it away thinking that it's just me being paranoid.
Around 6:30 it's starts raining making my already bad mood even worse. My parents talk quietly together careful not to talk load enough so that I could hear.
I lean forward and crank up the heat and lean my head against the cool glass of the window. I watch the raindrops slide down window like tears.
My dad decides to drive all day and hope to make it to Georgia by dark. We have family down there so we go down to visit every summer. Before the party my parents had agreed to let me stay home while they went down but now that I had broken their trust I don't think I'll ever be able do that again.
I listen to music, text my friends and nap almost the whole drive down. We only stop for gas, lunch, and dinner.
By the time my dad decides it's time for dinner I'm starved. We pull into an Applebee's and I hop out the car and stretch. It must've just stopped raining because everything is damp even the air.
"Thank god." I mutter glad to be out of our cramped car.
"What did you say?" My dad asks.
I roll my eyes. "Oh I'm sorry I meant Thank goodness."
My dad has this weird thing where I'm not aloud to say god like seriously he needs to chill.
I walk quickly toward the restaurant not wanting to be seen with my parents.
I pull open the dark cherry wood door and welcome the cool air that hits me.
I walk over to 'please wait to be seated sign' and tap the toe of my black flip flop on the ground. Behind me I hear my parents walk in.
After what seems like an eternity a pudgy middle aged waitress with greying hair walks over. "How many?" Her voice is polite but it's obvious she's had a long day.
"Three please." I say.
She grabs to menus from under the counter and gestures for us to follow her.
When were settled in our booth she takes our orders and hustles back to the kitchen to put them in. I pull out my gold iPhone 6 I got for my birthday and text my best friend Haylee.
ME: hey
HAYLEE: what's up?
ME: eating dinner w/my family u?
HAYLEE: watching pretty little liars have u seen the new episode?
ME: NO DONT SPOIL IT!!!
HAYLEE: lol sry I won't
ME: than-
My mom plucks my phone right out of my hand. "Wha-?"
"No phones at the table." My mom scolds.
"I won't use it!" I protest. "I'll put it in my pocket!" I beg. "Please."
I see in her eye she's about break and let me have it when our waitress swoops in with our food.
"Salads for the ladies," she says. "And a cheeseburger for the man!"
I glance at her name tag as she slides my Caesar salad toward me. It says MARGARET.
I smile sweetly. "Thank you Margaret."
Margaret grins showing a full set of yellow teeth. I pretend to not be disgusted.
"You're welcome sweetie!" She says. "You have such a sweet teenager." Margaret says to my my parents.
My mom scowls at me so I blink innocently at her.
My dad smiles up at Margaret. "Thank you. We try."
After Margaret walks away and out of earshot my mom leans over the table and glares at me. "What was that?" She snaps.
I play innocent and pick at a manicured fingernail. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Kylie Ryane Darling!"
I scowl at her. "Sorry."
I glance at my dad to see if he's going to pick any sides but he's already stuffing his face with fries.
"You'll get your phone back when we get to your cousins." Says before she put a bite of salad in her mouth.
I nearly spit my water all over the table. "What!" I yell outraged. "That's so not fair!"
My parents faces turn as red as cherries. "You better lower your voice before you get us kicked out."
I notice how the restaurant as become deadly quite. The only sound is clanging of dishes in the kitchen.
"Whatever." I mutter standing up from the table and stalking away from the table.
I hear my dad begin to get up from the table but my moms quiet voice urged him to let me go. He sits back down and I feel his glare burning a hole in my back.
As Im strutting towards the door I glance over to see a moderately cute boy staring at me open mouthed. I grin and flash him a wink before I flip my long pony tail over my shoulder. His eyes nearly pop out of his head and a blush creeps up his cheeks.
Feeling very pleased with myself I fling open the doors leading outside and am greeted by a wave of humidity. The sun is just beginning to set casting an eerie orange glow over everything. I glance down the street as I begin to cross, my destination a lonely graveyard of a play ground. I'm about half way across when a 2015 truck speeds out of nowhere straight at me and doesn't seem to be slowing. A scream rises in my throat and I squeeze my eyes shut. I know it's going to hit me. Seconds before the truck would've flattened me two strong arm wrap around me lifting me away from the path of the speeding car.
When I open my eyes I'm lying on my back in the grass all the way on the other side of the street. My breath catches in my throat. A faint outline of teenager is leaning over me. He's fading fast but the only distinctive feature I could see were his blazing baby blue eyes. Before I could even blink he was gone.
I lay on my back for a long time willing my pounding heart to slow. I determine that the boy I saw that 'saved me' was just a hallucination caused by the adrenaline from almost getting run over my a truck.
I finally sit up after deciding not to tell my parents that I almost got ran over. I wince as I climb to my feet. I must have twisted my ankle when I fell out of the way of the car. I notice I only have one flip flop so I hunt around for a while for it. I find it against the curb undamaged. I decide to sit on a bench outside Applebee's and wait for my parents.
I jump up when my parents exit the restaurant.
"Hey." I say quietly hoping there not still mad.
All I get as a response is a glare. They are sooo still mad at me. I sulk behind them as we walk towards the car. I climb in the back and put my earbuds in to drown out the world and my devastating thoughts.

A few hours after night fall my dad announces we will be at the hotel in an hour. I can see he's saying it more for my mom than me.
I'm looking out the window listening to Style by Taylor Swift when the car suddenly jerks into the other lane. My head snaps up just in time to see a two bright headlight speeding straight at us. My dad didn't have time to move before the truck hits us. A scream tears through my throat as the crash causes my head to whip back and hit the seat hard. My heart stampedes in my chest and confusion races through my head and I have the sensation of falling down stairs head over heel except so much more painful. I feel as though every bone in my body was breaking and then breaking again. I scream in pain and I scream in fear. Out of the corner of my eye a dark human like figure wraps its arms around me as one last crash totals the car. Darkness is creeping in on the edges of my vision as the car stops rolling and I see the dark figure retreat to the edges of my vision. The pain in my body is so unbearable I'm panting but each breath feels like a sledgehammer hitting my chest. It feels like hours as I pass in and out of consciousness. Just moments before a wave of darkness overwhelms me I realize that the truck that hit us was the same truck that tried to run me over.
