"Oh, really." A mischievous smile appeared on her lips, "You know me so well now, don't you? Remember when I lied and almost killed you on our wedding day?" Pudding put another mask on another to hide her fear and sadness that was showing. She didn't want Sanji to be guilty about anything.
Stupid move, indeed. Pudding still had no choice and this was the only option she could think of. It doesn't matter if Sanji forces the words out of her. He'll never remember that moment because she removed it from his mind anyway.
Sanji slowly let go of her, sensing that the woman doesn't like to be pushed on any longer. He finally sat down and grabbed another cigar from his pocket. "You think I don't know about your Devil Fruit ability?"
Cold sweat broke out Pudding's temples. She panicked and thought to herself, "Sanji-san doesn't know about it because I haven't shown him! How did he know I was a Devil Fruit user?!"
He chuckled as he sees her reaction, "Surprised?" With a lighter in his other hand, he lit up the stick in between his teeth. "Does a rainy night ring a bell to you?"
"A rainy night...?" She echoed, thinking back to the memories that she could possibly remember. Then it struck her when she matched one situation that formed in her head. It was the night when she shot Sanji's sister on the leg and told her all about her plans in killing Sanji. Pudding used her ability on his sister to forget she ever saw her that night.
"You were there...? Where were you?" Her throat seemed dry at that moment. She didn't expect to be cornered like this.
Sanji stared far for a long while and replied, "I was just outside the room you were in—eavesdropping. That's when I saw you remove my sister's memories."
It broke Pudding from the inside. Shame and guilt flooded her senses, remembering the words that she used to describe how idiotic Sanji was to believe her acting back then. She regretted everything that she said.
This time, Pudding faced away to continue putting away what she had bought at the market today. With that much embarrassment, she didn't know where to get remaining courage to face him. She thought this would be an amazing day for them to date but it turned the other way around.
A confrontation from the past. Was it karma? For her, it might be just that.
For Sanji though, it was like having a missing piece of the puzzle in his brain. He couldn't figure out why he didn't remember the favor that Pudding asked for. It didn't seem like a big deal to everyone else but for him, it was something for a gentleman like him. He didn't want to see any woman crying.
"Pudding." He called out to her in a low serious voice. There wasn't a hint of kidding around with his usual tactics. It sent goosebumps on the woman's skin. It was just a name and yet it sounded so good rolling out of Sanji's lips. She wondered how this man could be so effortless in everything.
For Pudding, Sanji was the perfect man. He's a gentleman, loving, funny, and adventurous. Most of all, he works in the kitchen like she does. Back in Totto Land, the people would say they were perfect for each other.
She slowly turned around and faced him. Without hiding anything else, Pudding let her tears fall down her cheeks. "Wait here." Wiping the tears quickly, she went to her bedroom and took the dusty film she's hidden for years inside her drawer.
When Sanji saw what was in her hand, his eyes widened in surprised. "Is that..."
"The film I cut out from your memories."
