"DON'T TEST ME, Dakota." King Damien warned in a dreadfully cold manner. "Don't forget who your loyalty lies with."

I laughed dryly. "My loyalty?"

A gush of strong wind rushed into the room just as a looming shadow crawled up the wall behind me, swallowing the four walls and floor in ominous darkness.

"You're one to speak. And you should know," I stepped closer to the old man, "that my loyalty will never lie with you."

His confident facade slipped slightly at my menacing words, then a smirk slid up his face. "You're right, Northern Prince. I could never gain loyalty from you. Not yet anyway."

I watched as the king glanced back at his resting daughter. "But your union with the princess is inevitable." He slyly added.

"I'm not marrying her."

"Then this means war, Dakota."

The temperature in the room dropped drastically, and ice began to freeze the four corners, slowly climbing up the furniture in a deadly promise. My jaw ticked in irritation, my eyes darkening to an obsidian black.

If I didn't get out of the same room as Damien, the entire Epirus would turn into a winter wonderland.

Turning around, my cloak spun behind me like liquid darkness as I held onto the handles of the doors with both hands. "Careful your highness, we wouldn't want your words to come back full circle now do we?" I chuckled darkly, then commanded my shadows to return to me in one motion, allowing light to fill the room once again.

"I'll find that little girl, and when I do, I'll make sure her head hangs nicely on my wall."

That made me loose all suppressed control.

Inky black matter suddenly extended from my hands, grabbing the king's throat in a chokehold. I swung him to the other wall, hearing a satisfying gasp for air before squeezing my hand harder.

"Father!"

Princess Vera's grey orbs were wide in fear. Growling, the shadows encasing her father disappeared. If it weren't for Nouxiton, he would be long gone by now.
