I HAD SEEN everything.

I had seen the black, malicious presence of Illias's men dissipating into dust, ebbing into the late afternoon. I had seen the piles of corpses laying scattered on the ground in heaps, rotting and pale — it was a graveyard of the unburied dead.

The world had exploded into nothing but blinding light as soon as Ixchel had plunged her sword into her brother's heart.

Cries and screams of our foes dying as well as the sound of metal clanking onto the ground brought the entire field to a standstill, leaving only dead blinking silence in the world. The treacherous smell of blood entered my system and filled my lungs — a perfume of death.

Something in the universe shifted. Power thrummed in the quiet breeze, throbbing, singing of a new life and a new beginning. Raw power that spanned wider and deeper than ever before.

From the top of the glass dome, I spotted a relieved smile on Ixchel's face, and I smiled along with her. "She did it." Atlas breathed out, choking on a laugh. The love of my life did it, my lovely Ixchel saved Alcadour.

I thought I had seen everything.

Because right when I least expected it, blood came gushing out of Ixchel's chest. Alarm bells started ringing in my head. Hollow, I felt so hollow and empty on the inside, as if a part of me had died, gone missing forever.

No...Ixchel wouldn't do this to me.

Fate wouldn't do this to me.

Dark matter exploded from my palms, then shattered the glass beneath me. I paid no attention to the tiny scratch marks on my hands as my wings carried me to her. A shrill cry left me when Illias punctured his scythe deeper into her chest while she refused to let go of her sword that was protruding his.

Then, she did something that I never saw coming.

Her dimming purple eyes were filled with tears of resilience and swiftly, she sliced her sword through the tyrant's body, cleanly cutting him into two with only his right side intact. So much blood...so much gore...Illias finally collapsed to the floor with a loud thud.

"Dakota." She croaked right as I caught her in my arms. Cold...she felt so cold...

"You're going to be okay. J-Just stay awake for me, alright?" I hushed her pained sobs with a kiss on her forehead. The sight of my dying star wracked my vision and hacked it apart. Help — I need to get help.
