"TO YOUR LEFT, blondie!"

"You're blonde too, Atlas!"

I traced an apotropaic symbol and it appeared on the ground where I stood, doing my best to block out Vera and Atlas's bickering. The speed spell helped me to shadow past the enemies, killing them instantly without them even having time to process my moves.

We were almost at the main tower where Illias was overlooking the war. Slaughtering men as we went, the four of us moved in a tightly packed position, strategically watching out for one another's back.

"And...there." Atlas wiped the sweat of his brow after the last enemy had been taken out by his magic.

As stealthily as we could, we climbed up the first flight of steps that circled around the inside of the tower. The stitch in my side from all the fighting worsened as we were literally going against the force of gravity.

"I swear if he's not here-"

"Don't jinx it!"

The second we made it up to the very top of the tower, an infuriated sigh left Dakota.

Illias was no longer at there.

"Great, you jinxed it." Vera threw her hands up to display her annoyance. From the vantage point, I was able to see the battlefield that stretched out as far as the eye could see. A bloodbath. Our men were still fighting strong, but they were struggling to hold the front lines while trying to ward off the attackers.

Just then, the faintest sound of an arrow whizzing this way gripped my instincts and I quickly pushed Atlas aside, who narrowly missed the shot. The arrow struck the pillar behind us instead.

Illias was there, at the center tower where four bridges from the four lower towers of the castle connected to it. I knew why he was standing there because in the center tower was a giant circular room — perfect for a fight.

All of us drew out our swords, ready to get to him when he began to trace an apotropaic symbol which created a ripple effect to produce four more symbols in front of us. And at once, four of the doctors who were meant to be healing the wounded back at the campsite were summoned.
