He was patient. He spent hours, days, months and years folding them. At last, on his 6th birthday, his wish came true.
Harry was 4 when he was taught how to make Origami. Mrs. Smith, the only person at that time who was nice to him, showed him how to create dragons, dogs, fortune tellers, pigs, spiders, and of course, cranes. Just before they parted, she gave him 2000 sheets of square paper and whispered in his ear, "A thousand Cranes will make any wish that you have come true"
So that's what he did. He made 1000 cranes, finishing just before his birthday. He wished desperately that he could have a real family, that he never saw the Dursley's again, that someone, anyone, would take him away from his cupboard, and that the Dursley's were punished. That night, he lay on his back, surrounded by his creations, and went to sleep.
The next day-----------
Lestrade was tired. A concerned neighbour had asked them to check on Number 4 Private drive because according to her, the family's nephew had not been seen outside the house for 2 weeks. And of course, with him came Scarlett and her wife Joan, as well as the entire Scotland Yard. He pounded on the door, shouting, "This is the Scotland Yard! Open up!" a surprised, skinny, and rather giraffe-looking woman did so. Behind her was a plump boy, with an airplane in his hands. "Yes? What can I do for you?" she asked. "I have a warrant from the Government to search this house. Now," he told her. Actually, Anthea had given him it, but he figured that since Mycroft was the one who signed it he was fine. The woman rather stiffly let them all in.
Scarlett scanned the area, Joan behind her, as everyone else went either upstairs or into the garage. Noting that there were only pictures of one boy, who looked very spoiled, she was about to ask the Walrus man a question when she heard a small noise from the cupboard beside her.
Joan leaned forward and tried to open the door, but it was locked. Ignoring the woman's protests that it was just the furnace, she stepped aside to let Scarlett lock-pick it open, and jumped back in shock. In a pile of dirty clothes, a skinny, clearly malnourished boy with a jagged scar on his forehead and broken glasses, stared back at them with his emerald eyes, large but intelligent. Surrounding him was- Joan quickly counted them all- 1000 Cranes, 70 dragons, 12 fortune-tellers, 6 spiders, 90 pigs, and 60 dogs, all folded as neatly as possible.
Harry stared at the tall, imitating woman, then glanced at the shorter, but equally imposing woman behind her, and found that he rather liked the two of them.
The boy suddenly asked, in a voice so hoarse and small it was clear he hadn't used it in some time, " Have you come here to make my wish come true?" Scarlett crouched down, scanning his body. Malnourished, beaten, old clothes, probably used by that other kid, Dudley, an expert on paper folding, made a paper crane wish, lost parents at the age of one, extremely smart although there has been no proper attempts to school him. She nodded, and the he looked hopefully. "Lestrade!" Joan called. Both Watson-Holmes were seething with quiet anger.
Everyone thundered back and stared in shock at the boy, who had procured a piece of paper out of nowhere and was now folding it with all the preciseness of an expert. Joan gently asked, "What's your name?" he looked up. "Harry. Harry Potter,"
Lestrade checked the time and sighed. He produced a pair of handcuffs and quickly snapped them over the couple's wrists. "You are both arrested for child abuse and malnourishment"
