SIRIUS WALKED AS THE BRUNETTE beauty walked into the classroom, clearly on edge as she tucked her locks behind her ear and nervously made her way between the boy and her red headed best friend.
"Are you alright?" He whispered to her very discreetly, clearly trying to make sure nobody caught him talking in worry.
The girl looked up to him and nodded, "Yeah, are you?"
"Yeah..." He responded, confused. "Why are you so tense?" Sirius added as she positioned her view back to the front. Her soft brown eyes staring mesmerisingly at the hues of blue and green that submerged into the atmosphere from the option.
"I'm not, am I?" She tried to make herself calm, push the subject of her smoking bad aroma out of her head in hopes during the lesson she, and anyone who could possibly smell it, forgot. Sirius just nodded to her as she shrugged.
Professor Slughorn continued to speak alongside the fact that as their first potion they would be brewing amortentia, something Ariyah had heard Elora speak about in her extra lessons. Naturally, she inhaled a deep breathe through her nose in hopes to get a smell of the person she would love now and forever. But all she got was smoke and sugar.
Sirius, on the other hand, ignored the girls giggling and whispering that they had smelt his cologne -which he clearly remembered he hadn't put on that morning - and furrowed his brows as the strong smell of lavender invaded his nostrils.
In unison, both Sirius and Ariyah looked to one another. "God you stink so much of smoke that I can't even smell it," She rolled her eyes and just before Sirius could respond in disagreement, she was off and collecting her ingredients to start brewing the potion.
"James," Sirius called out and watched as his best friend turned, "Aren't we working together?" he shrugged.
James smirked, "Nah mate, I'm working with Evans," and with a wink the brunette was stranded with several girls trying to be his partner. Non that he particularly wanted to talk to, never mind work on a love potion with.
His eyes scanned the room, falling on a focused expression as a smile laced his lips, "Alright there, Gray?" He teased as Ariyah tossed ash winder eggs into the cauldron, not even bothering to bash her hatched eyes in his direction.
"You already asked me that, Black," She responded shortly.
Sirius rolled his eyes, "Well, can I work with you? You're supposed to be helping me after all," He added as she raised a brow. "What?"
"You're of enough age to know basic manners," She narrowed her eyes with a sarcastic smile.
The brunette scoffed, "Right, please?"
"Say it like you mean it."
"Please? Please can I work with you Ariyah? I'll be a saint?" He over milked it as she smiled, the contagious gesture tugging his lips up whilst she nodded and handed him the Advanced Potions book. "I'll just read out the instructions, and you can, chop and add,"
Ariyah nodded, "Sounds good,"
As time passed, the duo had worked together to ensure their potion would top the rest. In fact, even Slughorn seemed to be confused to see them as a good pair. "Lastly, add Mother Of Pearl?" His tone evident to show he had no idea what the item was, but as he lowered the book Ariyah had already done it and had her face staring intensely inside the cauldron.
"Why is nothing happening? I'm 110% sure I did it all correctly," She raised her brows and looked up to the boy, very clearly blaming him.
"Why are you looking at me? I did as the book said?" He responded, joining her as he tried his hardest to get a whiff of the potion. "Maybe you just didn't add when I said to," He added whilst Ariyah pulled an offended expression.
"Well perhaps if you hadn't had smoked so much and eaten so many donuts at lunch- then I would be able to smell something instead of your stupid smoke and sugar!" She scolded him angrily, her voice loud enough to catch the attention of many as they watched the two Gryffindors fall into an argument.
"You're one to talk! The amount of Lavender perfume you're wearing is giving me an asthma attack," Sirius barked back as the girl clenched her fists.
The two continued to argue, not even noticing everyone staring intently at them until Professor Slughorn cut them off. "Alright- alright. Enough! Let me see," He demanded as Sirius and Ariyah happily stepped further away from one another. But when the mans face lit up instead of grew angrier, the two shared a small glance before looking away again. "I don't see what's so wrong? This is perfect!"
Ariyah rolled her eyes and refused to look at her partner, her lips parting in realisation as she remembered that she had ran out of her Lavender Perfume. And Sirius, he furrowed his brows and bit the inside of his cheek recalling he had been able to smoke that day due to the fact that James took the last cigarette.
