"Su. Su— oh my god, come on," I plead to my girlfriend, pulling her by the arm into the building. She weakly struggles against me. "It's literally laser tag, you've done this before."
She looks down. "Well... I wasn't being honest with you, (y/n)," she says. It almost looks like she's grinning, but maybe she's just embarrassed.
"What do you mean?" I ask, my hand falling into hers. I stop pulling at her and she winces.
"I've actually never played laser tag before. I said I did because I thought I would sound cool, I didn't expect you to actually take me," she says, looking up at the building.
I laugh. "Seriously? You know I would've been fine with that. Do you still wanna go in? We could leave if you want."
Suzuka grins. "No, we'll go in. Besides, you have to try everything once, right?" This time she's the one pulling me into the building.
At the front desk, Su and I get our tickets. I try to explain to her how to play, but she just doesn't seem to get it. "Maybe I'm just explaining it wrong," I say. "I think there's someone else inside who explains it."
Luckily for me, there was. We sit in a small room with about twenty other people, watching an employee demonstrating how the laser gun works and how to apply the vest. When he's done, us and the rest of the group walk into another room containing the vests and guns.
"Did you get that?" I ask Suzuka- I don't want her first laser tag game to be a total flop. I thought we would both know what we were doing.
"I think I understand it a little... Just point and shoot, right?" Su smiles, and puts on a red vest, opposed to my blue one. "Let's be on different teams. It'll be more fun."
"Are you sure? You don't want me to help you?"
"(Y/n), there's a seven year old playing this game, I'm twenty one. I think I'll be fine," she says, right before the staff member opens the door, releasing us into the "war zone".
Suzuka gives me a glance up and down before turning a corner. I raise my eyebrows- I forgot how competitive she can be, I hope she doesn't let that get the best of her. I'm clearly the more experienced one in the... laser tag... field.
I run up a ramp leading up to the second floor, shooting someone on the red team. They sigh, and wait for their vest to turn back on.
I hide behind a wall, and to my surprise, the seven year old Su was talking about is hiding there. I shoot him.
I feel kind of bad but clearly I'm on a very important mission here. I run across the floor, shooting about four people in the process. A laser flys past my head and hits the wall. I scoff and turn around to see who attempted to brutally murder me. It's that kid!
I smile at him and go to hide behind a wall, catching my breath. When I'm not dying anymore I look up. Su is standing there.
"Oh... hey, Su-chan," I mumble, nervously looking at her gun. "How many times have you been shot?"
"None, actually," she replies. "I've killed about ten people, too."
"Ten? I only got, like... six," I exclaim. "Are you sure you've never-"
Su interrupts me by placing her lips on mine. I stand still at first, confused. But then I get excited, moving my hand down to her waist, grinning-
And then my vest vibrates and goes dark.
"Of course I've played laser tag, (y/n)."
My jaw drops. Suzuka gives me her famous glance and walks away, of course shooting someone else in a very badass way. I'm in shock. That was so smooth.
"Game Over," a deep voice rumbles from the ceiling.
"What?" I say, more to myself than anyone else. I'm shooting people left and right for twenty minutes, and then at the last second I get shot by my girlfriend?
Back in the room, I grab Suzuka's arm. "You said-"
"I know what I said. I'm just a good actor," she smirks.
"Yeah, no shit," I smile, taking her hand. "You'll have to teach me how to play like you."
"Maybe. It'll take a lot of training..." she says in a serious voice.
We laugh, walking hand in hand to the car.
