August(Yungin)POV:

I sigh as I run my hand down my face. This shit is frustrating.

"Wassup? You good, nigga?" Chris asks, sitting on one of the couches in my office.

"No. I don't understand. It's been months and they still haven't attacked."

"Yeah, and it can't be random. He wasn't shot once."

"Whether he was shot once, that's my nigga, nobody touches him or my niggas."

My phone rings and I answer.

Phone conversation starts

Me: what?!

???: well, excuse me. Is that how you answer the call from the mother of your son?

I sigh.

Me: my bad, Rita. How are you doing?

Rita: I'm good. But I can tell you are not. What's going on? Are you ok?

Me: yeah, I'm fine.

Rita: you sound frustrated, Aug.

I frown.

Me: stop calling me that.

Rita: well you are acting like an Aug. Are you with someone?

Me: yeah.

Rita: ok, I'll call you later and you can tell me what's bothering you. When are you coming to New York?

Me: I'm trying to come next week, but if I can't, than it's the following week, why?

Rita: ok, well I wanted to talk to you. Its important.

Me: is Mani ok?

Rita: yes, he is great actually. Penelope showed me a video of him walking again today. By next month, he will be on his feet.

Me: that's awesome, lil man is growing up fast.

Rita: and looking more like me.

I suck my teeth.

Me: man, stop rubbing that in my face. You know that shit hurts.

She laughs.

Rita: you are such a big baby. Aaliyah looks like you. All your babies can't look like you.

Me: yes they can. They are my kids.

Rita: mhhm. Whatever August. I'll call you later. Make sure you hide in the attic when I call. We don't want you to be falsely accused of funny things, yeah?

Me: won't I be accused of hiding in the attic?

Rita: bye August.

I laugh shaking my head.

Me: yeah, bye Ri.

Phone conversation ends

"Nigga, are you still in love with that girl?"

I frown and look up to find Chris standing in front of my desk.

"What?"

"Bye, Ri."

I actually start laughing. Like full on hysteria.
