The large man continued to punch at the ground, shaking it each time. The bird sat by his side trying to comfort him while being thrown into the air with each thunderous thud. The tabaxi, not knowing how to comfort people tried his best to think of what to say.
"We should get moving." He said quietly. The man, still crying stood up once more.
"You're right, we should move, the dragon will find us if we don't." The group continued to move further into the woods until they could no longer see the smoke from the city. Bonk who somehow managed to climb up the armored man and was sitting upon his shoulders, humming a jolly tune. Other than that, it was absolute silence.
The silence was broken suddenly by the crackle of flames. Everyone was in their guard, Bonk grabbed his great axe, the tabaxi, his daggers, and the armored man, his gun. They walked carefully towards the sound when they saw a lone paladin, cooking a a rabbit. He looked up at the adventureres calmly. He slowly stood up posing no threat to the group. Still they were weary of this heavily armored man.
"Hello, travellers. My name is Ulrich, and as you can see, not doing the best right now. Would you care to join me for a rest?" He said to them all. Feeling slightly at ease, the tabaxi lowered his weapon and tried to speak, but was cut off by the kenku, leaping off of the man in castle armor.
"Hello, I'm Bonk!" He said happily.
"Hello, little kenku, we don't see your kind here often." Ulrich said kneeling down yet still towering over the small crow. "Are you hungry?" He asked him
Bonk looked around and said "Hungry." Ulrich looked at him and said,
"Yeah, me too."
The man in castle armor raised a hand. "I have some bread." He held it up and Bonk went for it. He grabbed the bread and saw it was a little moldy but nothing that could hurt. He held it up ti the sun and the mold retracted and went to the shaded side of the bread. Bonk let out a surprised squak and tried to throw the bread into the fire, but the large man caught it. "Yeah, I'm gonna hold on to this." He said, putting the bread back into his bag.
The tabaxi knelt down. "How about you go over there, and leave us alone." He said to Bonk, pointing at a field.
"Okay!" He said running off into the field.
"So who are you two?" Ulrich said putting a hand to his chin.
The tabaxi stood up and faced him. "Klepto." He said.
"How about you?" He said pointing at the man in castle armor.
"My name is Zanithar and I am-" he cut himself off, "was a baker."
"Was?" Ulrich inquired.
"Our city was destroyed by dragons and us 3 are the only survivors." Klepto interrupted. As they finished Bonk came back holding a single dandelion.
"For you!" He said, handing it to Klepto. "You save me." He ran back to the field. To which Klepto dropped the flower on the ground.
"What about him?" Ulrich said.
"He saw me find a hunker during the destruction of the city and followed me. Now we can't get rid of him." Klepto said, getting agitated. "That doesn't matter now. I'm here on business, do you know where I can get to Shanty Side?"
"Yeah I can take you." He said packing his stuff
"Kenku!" Ulrich shouted for Bonk. He ran over to the group. "We're leaving." Bonk smiled and climbed back up on Zanithar's shoulders. As the party walked into the thick woods, Bonk began to him his jolly tune once more.
