Copter's POV
As usual I was at the airport way ahead of my boss. I had called him up as soon as I arrived at the airport and the irresponsible bastard had just woken up. I could only guess how long I would have to wait for him to arrive. If we missed our flight it would be his fault. The problem was I could not scold him for being late because he was my boss.
I was already in an unsettled frame of mind as I made my way to one of the scanning machines where I quickly scanned my passport after which I made my way to the airlines desk to check in my luggage. After checking in my luggage I would have to sit around and wait for my boss to arrive which was on the top of my list of pet peeves. Twiddling my thumbs while waiting for anyone was something I could hardly handle without getting all worked up.
I was about to smile and say 'hi' to the person ahead of me when he turned around and said without any polite greeting, "I'm afraid there's already been someone ahead of you. He's with me. He's still just at one of those machines scanning his passport."
At any other time I probably would have graciously given in to this arrogant sounding jerk but he had caught me in one of my unpleasant moods.
"It doesn't matter if he's with you," I argued. "If he's still not here then he will have to wait in line behind me."
Just at that moment I heard footsteps behind me and I automatically turned around to see who it was.
"Copter!"
Of course I recognized him right away.
"Fluke!"
The jerk in front me looked at both of us wide eyed.
"You know each other???" he asked Fluke.
"We're neighbors," Fluke replied.
"And we're friends," I added. Then I turned to Fluke, "How come you never mentioned to me that you were leaving the country?"
"We never met again at any area of our apartment building after that day I first met you," he explained. "Plus I got really busy after I got hired by my boss. Oh by the way, Kimmon, this is my neighbor and friend Copter. Copter, this is my boss Kimmon."
Kimmon and I stared at each other. Neither one of us felt inclined to extend his hand to the other first. After a brief moment of awkward silence, Fluke took my hand and Kimmon's hand simultaneously and made us shake hands.
After that both of us burst into laughter. We both felt like children in the playground who, after a fight, the teacher made us shake hands with each other.
It didn't matter to me anymore who went ahead to check in first. In fact I pushed Fluke to go ahead of me and check in his luggage together with Kimmon's.
It turned out that they were going to the exact same convention which my boss and I were attending.
"You guys go ahead to the waiting area," I said to Fluke. "I have to wait for my boss to get here. He will be late." I wanted to add 'as usual' but I did not want his counterpart Kimmon to have a bad first impression of my boss.
"No, that's fine," Fluke said, "we will wait with you, if you're okay with it, Kimmon" he belatedly turned to his boss for approval of his decision to wait with me.
"I don't mind," Kimmon said. "Let's go over to those row of seats and wait for him there."
We then walked towards the seats that Kimmon had indicated. I lagged a bit behind because I was frantically texting my boss to ask him if he was already on his way to the airport.
Just as I hit send on my phone I heard him calling me.
"Cop!"
There he was, lugging his suitcase, looking every inch the CEO and son of the owner of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the land.
I could see that Kimmon had instantly recognized him.
"Holy shit," he muttered under his breath. "If that isn't Ohm Ritprasert my most formidable rival but only because he is backed up by his own father who knows all the tricks in the book on running a pharmaceutical business."
I could tell that my boss had also recognized Kimmon right away.
"Hey," he said to Kimmon who had already extended his hand to him. "We meet again."
I wondered when they had met before and where.
"Give me your passport, please," I said to Ohm. He had always insisted that I called him Ohm instead of sir. "I will take care of scanning it for you while you already fall in line to check in your luggage."
"The ever efficient personal assistant," Kimmon remarked, looking at me with a smirk.
At that very instant, I knew that I hated him. I swore to do all in my power to help my boss to always be ahead of Kimmon's business, that he would never surpass our company's gains and profits.
Before I left I heard Kimmon introducing Fluke to Ohm.
Did I just imagine it or was Fluke's and Ohm's handshake taking an awful long time to be over with.
After I scanned Ohm's passport, I brought it over to him just in time. He was already next in line to check in his luggage.
We all proceeded to go into the corresponding gate number where we had to wait for our flight number to be announced as ready for boarding.
Ohm and Kimmon engaged in business conversation while Fluke and I chatted.
Fluke filled me in on how just a few days after we had first met he had gone for that interview at the company that had advertised for a male secretary/personal assistant and that he had been hired immediately.
"Is this your first time to travel with your boss?" he asked me.
"Within the country or outside the country?" I wanted to clarify his question.
"Outside the country," he said.
"Yes, this is my first time to accompany him outside the country," I replied. "But I have accompanied him on several business trips within the country."
"Do you find it fun to travel with him?" he asked.
"After the business part, it's mostly fun," I replied. "He brings me with him to different night spots after his business meetings and he knows how to have a really good time."
"Is he married?" I hid the surprise I felt at Fluke's bold question.
"No, he's not," I informed him. "In fact, he's very much single and available. But that's because his entire life is dedicated to running his father's business."
"But you said that he likes to go to night spots and have a good time," Fluke argued.
"Yes, but that doesn't mean that he wants to hook up with anybody," I countered. "What about your boss, is he married?"
"Would you believe, just like your boss, he is very much single and available. But that's not because he doesn't want to hook up with anyone. I heard from the company grapevine that he is incapable of holding down a relationship because of his domineering tendencies," Fluke replied.
"Why am I not surprised," I said under my breath.
I noticed Fluke clapping his hand over his mouth as if suddenly realizing that he had revealed too much about his boss.
