The Mark Of Cain

Sam sat alone all night researching anything and all about The Mark of Cain, Cain and Abel and he wasn't getting a clear answer on how if there was a way to remove the Mark from Dean's arm. Sammy slammed the laptop closed and shocked his head. He hadn't found anything out about helping out his brother. Suddently the bunker door came open and Sam got up hopeing to see Dean walking back in but it was Cas, and Sam returned to his seat. Sam sat his head in the palms of his hands. Cas walked into the room.

Cas- "Hello Sam."

Sam- "Hey Cas."

Cas sat across from Sam and looked up and saw that Sam was injuried. He looked around the room searching for any clues as to why his friend was hurt.

Cas- "What happened? Where's Dean?"

Sam- "Nothing. Dean's gone, he left."

Cas- "Well, where did he go?"

Sam- "I don't know."

Cas- "Sam..."

Sam- "What Cas?"

Cas- "Did he...did Dean do this to you?"

Sam- "Yeah, but it wasn't his fault. He was out of it and...."

Cas- "And you just let him leave? Why didn't you stop him?"

Sam- "It wasn't that simple Cas! And you know as well as I do, that when Dean makes his mind up it is hard to fight him on it. He was angry, mainly at himself and he was lost, Cas. I don't know what to do. I fear we are losing this battle and Dean and it all my fault."

Cas- "Sam, this isn't your fault. Dean made the choice to take on the Mark, granted that it was Crowley doing that lead him there and he also had Dean when he turned and became a demon. But Sam, you know that there is a way out there, somewhere and we will continue to search for it. Dean is strong and I know he can over come this but you and I can't fall apart now, especially when he needs us the most, even if he doesn't think it or see it."

Sam looked up at Cas and gave him a small smile and nodded his head in agreement with what he had just said. Cas reached over to heal Sam but Sam backed up from Castiel's touch.

Cas- "What's the matter?"

Sam- "Nothing, it's just...I don't want to be the reason you strat to become weak again. I'm fine. Just a few brusies, no big deal."

Cas- "Are you sure? Cause I can..."

Sam- "Cas, really I'm good. I will be better if we found a damn scrap of information. Crowley he told Dean something earlier that set him off but..."

Cas- "Crowley? How does he know about this?"

Sam- "I guess Dean told him or something."

Cas- "Or something."
Cas stood up quickly and walked off from the table and stood in the arch of the door way.

Sam- "What? What is it?"

Cas- "Nothing I guess."

Sam- "Cas whatever it is, it could be a clue or something so spill. "

Cas- "Alright. So earlier, when we had our chat on the phone I felt like there was someone standing by, prehaps listening to use. It could have been one of Crowley's demons."

Sam- "Really?"

Cas- "It is a possiblity, but I can't know for sure since I'm not at full strenght."

Sam- "Well I spoke with Crowley shortly on the phone."

Cas- "And?"

Sam- "He was saying something on the lines of it is someone who is the source but it's not Cain. I don't know what he was going on about but..."

Cas- "Not Cain being the source?"

Sam- "What? Cas what is it?"

Cas- "Sam, I think this whole mess just got more complicated."

Sam- "How?"

Cas- "You know the story behind how Cain got the mark right?"

Sam- "Yeah I guess, he killed his brother because he was God's favorite."

Cas- "No Sam, that isn't it."

Sam- "What? What are you talking about?"

Cas- "Abel wasn't speaking with God, he was talking to Lucifer."

Sam- "Lucifer?"

Cas- "Yes, Lucifer favored Abel and Cain, his older brother made a deal for Abel. And he killed him and became a demon. Soo the source, it might possibliy be...Lucifer."

Sam- "No!"

Cas- "Sam."

Sam- "Damnit!"

Just then the bunker door flew open and Dean stummbled inside. Both Sam and Cas went to meet him. Dean looked up and saw both Sammy and Cas. He looked longer on Sam's face that had a few brusies on it. Dean walked pasted them and sat the beer onto the table. He closed his eyes for a small moment. He didn't feel in the mood right at this point in time to have a huge conversation with either or both Sam and Cas. All he wanted was to still alone in silence and drink away the day he had just had. He wanted to forget it all, every single event that had accured. He turned to face his little brother and his best friend.

Dean- "What with the lingering looks fellas? I'm fine."

Sam- "Dean, we should talk about you and the mark, everything."

Dean- "Yeah, well I think we've talked enough for one night Sammy. Night."

Sam- "Dean..."
Sam reached out and grabbed Dean's arm and as soon as Sam's hand touched his arm, he quickly yanked his arm back. Sam froze and watched his brother shake his head at him. Dean looked over at Cas how hadn't taken his eyes off of him since he entered the bunker. Dean was the first to look away from Cas. He grabbed a beer and left the room, heading towards his bed room. Cas looked over at Sam and he couold see that he was upset by all of this.

So Sam finally learned the answer to why Dean was upset by the phone call from Crowley, because he knew that Lucifer was locked tight up in the cage and he knew that Dean wouldn't risk freeing Lucifer just to get this Mark of his arm and possibly bring on the end of the world. Sam felt horrible by this but he was still very determined to help his big brother the best that he could and if that meant making a deal or something and possibly freeing Lucifer to save Dean then he might. Cause Dean has done soo much for him, he has died many times and he knew that Dean would risk not just his life but the whole world if it meant he could protect or saving him and Sam was willing to do the save thing for Dean.

Dean was Sam's big brother and he would die for him, hell he has. Sam went to Hell to not just to put Lucifer away and to save the world but mainly to protect and save his big brother. There was nothing he wouldn't do for Dean and Sam felt like most of all of this was his fault so he couldn't let his brother down again, he couldn't, Dean had already been threw enough. Sam was ready to do whatever it took to save Dean and that even meant throwing away his own life to do it.
