"They don't even like you, Ris. They only did it because they pitied you."

The decorations in the Great Hall had changed this morning. As it was Halloween, a cloud of live bats was fluttering around the enchanted ceiling, while hundreds of carved pumpkins leered from every corner.

I walked in with Daphne and made my way to the Gryffindor table for breakfast. Daphne didn't object and silently followed me. As we neared the Gits, I overheard Potter's conversation with Jean.

"We can't have a Slytherin champion!"

I frowned. Surely we weren't that horrid?

No, I take it back. Pugsy was pretty horrid. But Daphe and I weren't. Neither was Blaise.

"And all the Hufflepuffs are talking about Diggory," said another Gryffindor.

I think his name was Reamus. I think.

No, that was Lia's dad.

Daphne and I sat down in front of them and we were instantly greeted with their warm smiles. Except for Black, who scowled, in which I happily reciprocated.

I smiled back at the others though, as did Daphne.

"Good morning," I said politely.

"Morning," Weasel said. "You seem to be in a cheery mood."

"Daph and I had some fun with Pugsy. Cheered me up." I said with a smile.

"I still feel a bit bad. But it was funny." Daphne said with a grin.

"Has anyone put in their name yet?" I asked.

Potter was about to answer when Bush interrupted.

"Listen!" she exclaimed suddenly.

People were cheering out in the entrance hall. We all swiveled around in our seats and saw a Gryffindor coming into the Hall, grinning in an embarrassed sort of way. A tall black girl, who played Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, I think. I saw her play in a match once or twice.

She sat down next to us and smiled.

"Well, I've done it! Just put my name in!"

"You're kidding!" said Weasel, impressed.

"Are you seventeen, then?" asked Potter.

"Course she is, can't see a beard, can you?" Weasel replied.

I looked at Daphne and she had the same confused expression on her face.

Beard?

I didn't want to go to Hagrid's which left me alone after breakfast. Daphne had joined her sister so I didn't have anyone to talk to. I made my way to the library to see if there were any books I'd want to read.

I walked over to the shelves and started looking at the different books. Surely there was one I'd find interesting.

"You still like books?"

I looked to my left and froze. Draco was leaning against the bookshelves but...he was alone.

"What, you thought I only enjoyed reading because you were my friend? Don't flatter yourself." I said as I turned back to the books.

He laughed softly and I glared at him.

"What do you want? I don't think you're talking to me because you've decided to forgive me out of nowhere. You were just glaring at me last night." I snapped.
