"I can't believe that we just got away with that," Emily laughed as she plopped down on the sofa in the penthouse.
Sonny didn't respond. Instead, he walked over to the mini-bar and poured himself a tall drink.
"Sonny, are you okay?" Emily suddenly had a nervous knot in her stomach. What if he had a change of heart? She knew she was too young for him; maybe their meeting with her family had driven that point home for Sonny. "Are we okay?"
"Of course, we are, mi reina." Sonny looked at her like she was crazy before turning to gaze out at the city of Port Charles from the window.
Reina. That was a new pet name and, unknown to Sonny, Emily actually knew what it meant. "Then what's wrong, mi rey? Why do you seem so far away from me?"
Sonny had a half-grin on his face as he turned away from the window and took a long sip out of his glass before setting it aside. He walked to where sat and held out his hand for her. When her tiny hand grasped his, he gently tugged her to her feet and pulled her into his arms. He laid a whisper soft kiss on her lips. "I'm right here with mi reina. I will never be too far away from you."
Emily smiled and seriously had to resist the urge to swoon. "I meant emotionally Sonny. You've been kind of off ever since we left my family's house. It's like there's this invisible wall between us now."
Sonny held her a little bit tighter. "Seeing your family reminded me that we come from two very different worlds. You're really too good for me."
"Are you out of your fucking mind?" Emily's brain-mouth filter momentarily malfunctioned and she said the first thing that came to her mind.
Sonny gave a shocked chuckle. He wasn't used to hearing her use the F-word outside of the bedroom. "Querida, you're a rich family's princess and I'm nothing but a street rat made good."
"So?" Emily rolled her eyes. "That dynamic worked for Aladdin and Jasmine. And I may be the Quartermaine family princess but I'm your queen and you treat me like I am. I love you. You make me happy."
Her words put the first full smile on Sonny's face that Emily had seen since they had been home. He reached up and ran his fingers through her hair. "I love you, Emily. You make me the happiest that I have ever been in my entire life. I'm always going to feel like I don't deserve you but that's okay. It just means that I'll always remember to at least try to deserve all the love you give me. A blessed man is the one who understands how good he has it. I'm a blessed man, mi reina."
See, when he talked like that, Emily felt so much like a loved and cherished fairy tale princess that he could ask her to blow up City Hall and there was a strong possibility that she'd do it. Luckily for her, Sonny wasn't a supervillain from some overhyped superhero movie. All he wanted from her was a kiss.
One kiss turned into two and before she knew it, Emily was straddling Sonny's lap on the sofa as the two engaged in a hardcore make out session.
"Who. I did not need to see that." The familiar male voice caused the couple to break apart.
"Sonny?" Emily spoke against his lips.
"Yeah, baby?" Sonny smirked.
"Jason's here," she playfully spoke the obvious.
