Monday mornings are always the worst, my alarm rings out the same dreadful tone, and I manage to crawl from the comfort of my bed. The icy weather makes me want to just live in my blanket, and even go to school with it but course that wouldn't fly.
I dig through the neatly made closet, tossing jeans, a shirt and cardigan I wore almost daily. I threw on everything, and with the application of some mascara, I was ready for Monday. I made my way downstairs, both my parents in the kitchen, dad was making eggs while my mother poured a fresh bowl of food for our cubby cat, Montez.
"Morning sunshine" my dad greeted as I gave him a small peck on the cheek, stealing an apple from the table. My mom wiped her hands on her pants, grabbing my shoulders to kiss me on my cheek. My parents terribly typical but loving. And I loved them for that.
"Well, I'm off to get Jordan and get to school" I said, slinging the heavy backpack on as I slipped out the back door. I had a small little step stool I used to hop the fence since I wasn't able to scale it as effortlessly as Jordan, I climbed it and hopped.
The hyper mutt raced over as I landed, circling and panting happily. Jordan's dog was always hyper, and followed me up to the back door with a stick in mouth. I gave a short knock before turning and tossing the stick for him.
"Oh Elise! Jordan's just finishing breakfast come in darlin" she said, with the same blue eyes Jordan had. I smiled and walked in, Jordan sat at their dining table, shoveling eggs into his mouth.
"You remind me of a caveman when you eat" I joked, he looked up sheepishly. His mom walked by, wiping a spot of egg off the corner of his mouth, making me laugh a bit. He blushed a bit, finishing and pulling on his coat.
We were planning to wake up Lee, knowing he had math with us first period. Mr.Haller would fail him on the quiz unless he showed on time so it was his only hope for a decent grade, so we made the walk down the neighborhood to Lee's.
Both his parents worked in the mornings, and left before he had school, which is how he got away with never showing up on time. We walked up, Jordan grabbing the extra key under his mat.
"He's gonna be so grumpy" I commented as we walked in, the house quiet. Jordan dropped his bag at the door, I did the same and followed him down the hall to Lee's door. We opened it, and I ran over to his bed, jumping and laying on top of him.
He groaned loudly, pulling the blanket off his face, looking at me. I gave a big smile, sitting on his stomach.
"Wake up sleeping beauty, we got Haller's quiz today" Jordan told him, grabbing a shirt and pants for him. He pushed me off and sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"I hate you guys" he mumbled, pulling on the shirt Jordan tossed him. He laughed a bit, leaning in his doorway as he pulled on his pants.
"You pronounced love wrong" I said, getting up and handing him his hat off the floor. He gave a big fake smile, yanking it over his bed head. Jordan sat at the kitchen table, I on the island counter as Lee poured coffee into a tumbler. We watched as he nearly chugged the rest of the pot without hesitation, stretching.
"Alright you little shits, let's go" he said, grabbing his bag. We all climbed into the Jeep, me getting shotgun today, I played Rolling Stones as we drove.
The school was bustling, parking lot full of kids waiting for the first bell sneaking smokes and some skateboarding. Lee pulled into his regular spot, offering a cigarette before we went in. We both shared one between the two of us while Jordan waited, he never smoked but wasn't bothered by it.
"Already let's get this shit over with" Lee grumbled, coffee in hand, now the two of us smelling of cigarette. We walked the halls, even more full than the lot. We had lockets next to each other luckily, and was Lee messily shoved his bag away, I began stacking my books for the day.
