MYKA

"I'm here as you asked. Spit it out."

Naira's voice is more melodic than I thought it would be, silky and soft. For being an utter bitch she sure sounds pleasant.

Still a predator, though. I don't trust her.

I make sure to keep eyes on her as soon as she walks in, even though her mere presence doesn't intimidate on the same level as Lucien's or Milo's. Is it because she's a female? Or is she a lower rank? I honestly don't know.

Then again she could have us fooled. I'm not stupid enough to underestimate a woman of any species. The worst demons are always hidden beneath the pretties surfaces, I know that.

Naira stands tall and proud in front of us, shoulders back, chin up. The long hair pulled into a low ponytail, showing off her barefaced features. It's almost irritating how pretty she is.

Crossing her arms over her chest, those eyes slide over to me, yellow gaze hardening into a glare. I glare straight back at her.

As if your boyfriend's obsession is my fault.

The tension in the air thickens. Our eyes create a storm between us, sending lightning strike after lightning strike at each other.

The atmosphere gets fouler. Forcing Dinah to clear her throat loudly before it escalates, the sound making both of us snap our heads in her direction.

Our secret meeting is inside the gardenhouse, a secluded place near the edge of the woods. The only place without eyes watching and ears lurking.

"I think we want the same thing." Dinah's voice is low as she speaks.  "You want us out of here and we want to get out."

Naira lets her gaze travel over to my sister. No visible emotion as she studies her, face stays neutral.

"Well, you are my brother's mate," she says at last. "I don't have a problem with you." She shoots me another short annoyed glance, making it clear who she really wants to get rid of.

I roll my eyes.

"Look - we're a package deal. I won't leave my sister." My voice sounds cold, stern. No room for discussion. "Either you're in or you're out."

She raises an eyebrow but doesn't open her mouth. Not immediately. For a moment she just stays still and silent, thinking it over. Then she gives us a short nod.

"It's not going to be easy, Lucien and Milo aren't your average Lycans, even if I can help you get to the border you need to know how to disappear after that." Her face is serious when she speaks again, looking both of us straight in the eye, wanting us to know the gravity of the situation. "That means changing your names, moving from place to place, masking your scents.. for the rest of your lives. Are you ready for that?"

No pause, no hesitation. We both nod, unmistakable resolution over our faces. As long as we avoid becoming breeding stock we'll take it, any day.

"Good, that settles it. Any plans yet?"

Dinah shakes her head. "Not really. All I can think of is to steal someone's car keys, but that's sounds too clumsy."

"You wouldn't get far, not even down to the road." Naira lets out a dry laugh. "There are always Lycans out there making sure nothing gets past our borders. Or out. Always."

"Then what do you propose we do? Is it even possible to get out without a fuss?"

Both of us hold our breaths, bracing ourselves for her answer, not wanting our faint hope to be ripped to shreds.
