Michael held Piper's hand tightly. She was taking him to his first day of preschool. He looked at the door of the small white building with tears in his eyes.

"Mommy, I don't wanna go! What if they don't like me?" Piper sighed.

"Honey, it's going to be fine. Me and momma will come to pick you up at the end of the day. And if anything happens, we'll be right there." She dropped to her knees, and wiped away the tears from her son's face. "You can do this." She hugged him tightly, and then stood up, walking inside the building. They got to a small classroom, where there were kids saying goodbye to their parents, some kids were giddy with excitement, others were balling their eyes out. The classroom's walls were painted a sky blue, the carpet was a muted green, the rug was red with the alphabet going around it, at the front of the classroom there was a chalkboard, and above it was numbers all the way up to fifty. At the back of the classroom was a few tables, and bins filled with books, paper, markers, crayons, and all sorts of other things for playtime. Piper took Michael over to a nice looking lady with curly blonde hair with baby blue eyes in a blue dress. She smiled.

"Hello, I'm Ms. Mell, and this is my son Michael Mell, we were wondering if this was the right classroom?"

"Hello Ms. Mell. Let me check." The teacher grabbed a clipboard and ran her finger down it.

"Yep! Michael, go ahead and find a seat on the rug, class will begin in a few minutes." Michael hugged Piper's legs.

"Please don't go." He said.

"I'm sorry darling, I have to, I'll be back in a few hours to pick you up." She dropped to her knees. "But don't worry. You'll make friends." She hugged him, and kissed his hair. "Goodbye Michael. I love you. Have a good day at school." Michael sniffled.

"Goodbye mommy." She stood up and left, waving to him. He sat down on the rug, and tried not to cry. The teacher went to the front of the classroom. "Alright, I think everyone's here! Let me take roll." She called out the names, and kids called out here. At the end, a girl with a big sweater, long brown hair, and glasses raised her hand.

"Teacher, you didn't call my name." The teacher looked up.

"What's your name, darling?"

"Martha Dunnstock." the teacher looked back down at her list.

"Oh, you're in Ms. Dawn's classroom, just down the hall." Martha got up and went to the door. The teacher clapped her hands together. "Alright! My name is Mrs. Glinda. I will be your teacher for the rest of the year. We're going to form a circle. Then, we're going to go around that circle and say our name and something about ourselves. Got it?" The students nodded. "Let's do it!" The students formed a circle, and Mrs. Glinda started speaking. "I'll go first! My name is Mrs. Glinda, as I said, and I have a wonderful wife named Elphaba, an amazing daughter named Dorothy, and a cute little dog named Todo. Now you go!" She said, pointing to the boy on her left.

"My name is Arnold Cunningham, and my favorite movie is the Lion King!"

"My name is Jack Kelly, and I like painting."

"I'm Lydia Deetz, and my favorite color is black."

"H-hi, my name is Evan Hansen, and I think trees are cool."

"Hey, my name is Alexander Hamilton, and I love writing!"

"I'm Cady Heron, and I was born in Africa." Now it was Michael's turn. He swallowed, and spoke out shakily.

"H-hi, I'm M-Michael Mell, and I...I l-like P-Pacman." Glinda smiled, and the next girl went.

Michael was outside, sitting by the swings, and doodling a T-rex on a piece of paper with a red crayon. A boy with light brown hair and tons of freckles came up to him. He was wearing a blue shirt with a hot air balloon on it and blue jeans, and his eyes were light blue.

"Hi! My name is Jeremy, and I like Pacman too!" He said, sticking out his hand for a hand shake. Michael nervously took it.

"H-hi Jeremy. I'm Michael." Jeremy looked down at his drawing.

"WOW! That's a really cool dino! You wanna be friends?" Jeremy said. Michael's eyes filled with hope.

"Really?"

"Sure why not?" They hung out together the rest of recess in the sandbox. When it was time to come in, they went over to the craft table. Michael colored in a picture, while Jeremy worked with strings and beads. After a while, he yelled, "Finished!" He held up a string with rainbow beads. "I made this for you!" He took Michael's right wrist, and tied it on. Michael smiled.

"Thanks!"
