"NO!" The man yells. A loud crash of items being slammed onto the kitchen counter. "I WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN, ANGELINA!"
"Angelina?" she responds. "You never call me Angelina." The man doesn't continue. "What happened to Babe, Greg?"
"You aren't my wife," the man, Greg, said. "You are the person that is killing my son."
"My son!"
"MY son!"
"Did you give birth to him, Greg? I don't think so!"
"He came from me!"
"I carried him in womb," Angelina screamed, "for NINE MONTHS! While you sat on the couch and watched dumb adult cartoons laughing at every sex, gay and alcohol joke."
"I want you out of this house," Greg says.
"You can not do this," she responds. "You can not separate me from Noah!"
Crash.
Greg stomps his way over to Angelina and pins her to the wall, his hands over her neck. Glass shatters behind them from the window Angelina's head smashes up against.
"Greg, stop-" she struggles to let out. "Stop!"
"My son," he said, "is not going on another one of those gay missions where he dies!"
"He," Angelina snaps, "is not going to die." She starts chocking. "And even if you wanted to divorce me," she continued, "I'm getting custody." Angelina grabs onto Greg's arms and twists them back and off of her. Greg stands there as Angelina walks up over to the top of the stairs, where Noah is crying, listening to the conversation.
"Noah," she says. "I'd like for you to come with me to the hospital."
Flashing ambulance lights, chaotic ER madness, and into surgery Angelina went.
She died in that surgery. The glass in the back of her head was too deep.
Greg was charged with murder, and sent to jail.
And Noah was given to his Godmother, Angelina's best friend Alyssa, who met in first grade obsessing over the fact they had the same first letter of their names.
Alyssa wasn't nearly as great as a mom as Angelina was towards Noah, but Alyssa let Noah on the trip.
Noah thought about how unlucky, but lucky he was at the same time, when he was walking down the street onto the space ship. He happened to be given custody of a nice family, who let him on the trip ahead of him, with cameras around him going-
FLASH!
I wake up from my dream. I haven't thought about the night since... the night. Nevertheless dreamt about it.
"Hey," Michael said, having the I'm sorry look on his face. He knew what was wrong. "Dream about the other month?"
"Yes," I say, wiping the long drips under my eyes. This whole time, I thought we'd be safe. I wondered if Earth could see the explosion from the moon and are coming back at this very second.
Or maybe they weren't.
Maybe they didn't assume they'd put us on the secret moon base. It was secret, after all. Maybe they thought we were all on the ship during the explosion and there was no point to come and check. Maybe my funeral was happening right now, and Alyssa is speechless; every person in her life falling away as if they were never there to begin with.
