Ch.3

Coming, coming! Aubree yelled, as she pathetically struggled to drag her suitcase down the stairs and ran outside the door, breathless.

"Remember to take yo-"

"I'm here!" Aubree replied and got into the car, greeting her brother with a good morning.

Shaking her head and mumbling something inaudible, her mother got in the car and shook her head, starting the car.

Rolling down the window, Aubree looked behind and waved goodbye to her father and younger brother.

As they pulled out of the small driveway, Aubree rested her head on the now rolled up window, staring up at the clear skies, flicked with clouds as if someone had taken a paintbrush and flicked across a bright, blue canvas. As she stared at the sun that she once believed was following her car, she wondered about what she would say to her friends this year. Where did she go for Christmas? She'd already declined a group trip to paris that year since her "Great grandfather passed away" and she had to "comfort her mother"

Letting out a soft sigh, she rolled her head back and closed her eyes. If she was stressing out about unimportant things before she even went to school what would she do when she was there?

"We're here! Bree? You awake?"

"Huh? Um- yeah!" Aubree jolted awake, from her surprisingly calm sleep to her brother's face looming over hers, shaking her awake.

"Good," He smiled "I think my friends are-"

"KYLE! Do you want to play or not? We're starting now," His friends yelled from across the ground.

"...Yeah, you go ahead, Kyle. I'll see you during dinner!"

"See ya!" He smiled and ran across, greeting his friends who lovingly responded with a football in his face.

Aubree climbed out of her mom's car, running her fingers through the lengths of her hair, trying to get rid of the knots in the frizzy mess. She picked up her suitcase and waved goodbye to her mother.

"Remember to study well! Maximum of one B- allowed on the report card, okay?"

That one sentence drained the enthusiasm out of her. Your daughter is leaving and you won't see her for 4 months, and the best thing you can say is "Study well and get all A's!"

"Yes mom...bye,"

She walked outside, looking for familiar faces as she navigated her way through the crowds of people laughing and smiling, probably not having a single worry in the world.

She'd always lived a pretty well-off life, but a couple years ago her father's company went bankrupt, causing tons of financial issues in their family. Aubree was 6 years old, her brother 8 and her younger brother 2 years old. Aubree had been forced to leave her current school, and join a government funded school where she didn't have to pay fees.

But after seeing just how devastated she was, and how she couldn't cope with change very well, her brother decided to study hard and give the entrance exam again for her previous school, and luckily she got a scholarship and her parents could afford to send her, and her brother to the school again, and she was filled with gratitude for the amount of sacrifices he'd made for her well being.

Dragging her suitcase up the grand mahogany staircase, she walked her way through the packed halls, wishing the teachers good morning on her way, and walked to the large assembly room, scanning the crowds to see someone to take her bags to her dorm.

"DORM 1707 A, B, C HERE PLEASE! SUITCASES FOR BUILDING 1707 A, B, C HERE PLEASE!"

Her ears picking up the sound of the familiar numbers booming through the speakers, she raced across the room to give her bags, but resulted in bumping into someone and slipping onto the hard floor.

"HEY! Wat-" Said what sounded like a really typical rude-popular-jock, Aiden.

"Hey, shut up. One sec," His friend pushed through and came in front of Aubree.

"You good?" He extended an arm.

Aubree looked up and silently swore. Of course, it had to be him. Of all the guys at school, it had to be him.

"Of course I'm good, stupid. Why not shoo away and continue being number one?"

"Ooh, so you admit I'm perfect? Someone's angry they got second place in midterms," He sang.

"Um, Aubree? Miss.....not sure what her name is, but you're the only one in your dorm building who hasn-"

"Going, going!" She interrupted the girl who looked scared out of her wits, for what reason she wasn't sure. Cursing under her breath, she raced to the cart carrying all the suitcases and threw hers in the section labelled with an 'A'.

"BREEEEE!" A loud, squeaky voice screamed from across the room.

Aubree's best, no, only friend at school, Brielle joined her in the line to head to their dorm buildings.

After talking for a bit and catching up on how they'd been recently, Brielle decided to start being her usual annoying self.

"Ooh, let's see our neighbors for this year! I sense you're hoping for a certain somebody-" She nudged Aubree.

Every year, they'd have the same dormmates, but they would always be switched around to different dorm buildings and rooms, why? she had no idea!It just ended up always causing more confusion.

"Shut up, I don't even like him,"

"You don't even like whom?"

She turned around, and was greeted face to face with her neighbor for this year, certain somebody.
