*Sleep*

Smoke weighed heavy in the air as Balloon and I ran for our lives. I struggled to get air in my lungs as I dodged roots and branches.

I had always been a fast runner, only beaten by Needle and Firey. As well as being very agile, it was quite easy for me to escape.

But Balloon obviously didn't share  those traits. With his stubbier legs and rounder body, he was slacking very far behind.

"Come on!!" I yelled, desperately trying to get fresh air into my lungs.

"I cant!" Balloon wheezed, eventually crashing onto the ground.

I froze, my heart sinking in my chest before rushing back.

"I won't let you die!" I cried as I picked him up.

I immediately started running in the other direction, dodging falling branches and undergrowth that was blocking my path.

It was getting harder and harder to breathe, I was slowing down, my legs growing numb.

My vision blanks out for a second, but I keep running, each breath feeling like razors going in and out of my throat.

I̧f̕ yo͝u ́d͢ie ́nò one wi̴ll ̴recov͟e̕r ̨yo̡u,̴ ̧n̨o̶ on̵e҉ ̨wi̕l̛l͝ car̢e.̴ ̛

I see the exit to the forest. It is so close, I can almost feel the relief of fresh air.

I almost laugh in relief as I see the exit getting larger. I am almost free! I can save my friend!

A flaming branch suddenly falls, covering the exit, and in an instant, I'm trapped. My heart sinks as I trip on a fallen branch, dropping Balloon in the process.

Black spots appear in my vision as I hit the ground, the air forced out if my lungs.

This is it, this is how it ends. I failed to protect Balloon, were both going to die, and it's all my fault. I finally found a new friend and I've already lost them in less then a day.

The last thing I see as my vision goes completely dark is an object slowly walks towards me, raising their hand up to touch me.

This is by far the laziest and shortest chapter I have ever made, but whatever.

Writers block and procrastination have worked together to screw me over.

Also cliffhanger, lol.
