"Let's play a game" - Lukiia says casually after an hour of silent tea. It makes no difference whether they play chess, cards, or roulette.

"Whatever you say" - Mycroft says calmly - "The guest's wish is the law"

"I like to play chess. Especially with you. It's fun to play with you"

Lukiia gaze is filled with excitement. Even an ordinary game of chess arouses in her a strong excitement and anticipation of the game. And their game will be really interesting and unpredictable.

The game between them is a truly fascinating spectacle that causes adrenaline from excitement and impatience from waiting for the outcome. Mycroft likes to play chess with her.

"It's just as interesting to play a game with you" - Mycroft finally says, putting down an ordinary chessboard with ordinary chess pieces.

Just an entertaining game between two people I know.

"I'll play white" – she smiles, picking up the white Queen.

"I don't mind" - Mycroft just shrugs and starts placing a row of black pawns on the board.

They've been playing this game for a long time. Therefore, it is impossible to answer the question: which of them is the winner. Mycroft still can't figure out how she wins by betting everything on the Queen.

"Your move is first" - he says when all the pieces have taken their places.

Her gaze goes to the board and starts running over the white pieces. Lukiia is a very good player, but she can never start the game correctly. She needs to start with pawns, but she likes the Queen.

Finally, she makes the first move. The game started. It's easy for Mycroft to start a game. For him, pawns are something you can always rely on. They don't let him down. They can be absolutely useless at times, but they will always stand up for their king until their death. That's what he likes about pawns. He makes the second move in this game.

"I can take it" - Lukiia says thoughtfully, propping her chin on her hand, looking at the white pawn that stands at the edge of his territory, next to her piece. A pawn will eat another pawn - this is the norm.

Mycroft is silent and listens. Carefully, not daring to interrupt the flow of her thoughts, reasoning and conclusions. He is ready to listen to her unexpected arguments and thoughts endlessly. Just to solve the riddle.

"You're always trying to feed me half of your pawns first" - she says sourly, not taking his pawn, but putting up another one instead.

"I'm not trying" - he says lazily, leaning back in his chair as he moves a new pawn onto the battlefield.

"Oh, come on" - she smiles mysteriously. Naturally, Lukiia knows that his words are a lie. He might give up more pawns than she could imagine, knowing that he valued them. The life of the pawns is the main key to his victory. And who knows what he can do with them to win.

"Maybe it's time to make a move"

"Maybe" - she says thoughtfully, looking at the black pawn near the edge of the chessboard.

There's a mystery behind her smile. A mystery that even he, after all these years, still couldn't solve. But the answer could answer many questions. She could explain who was sitting in front of him in the guise of a beautiful girl: a genius or the luckiest creature in the world.

The white pawn that was moved by it on the first move of the game eats the black one. Her eyes stare at him. Lukiia also can't read it like an open book to the end.

In the case of pawns, even Lukiia is willing to play by his rules. Because even she can't tell when he's moving a pawn and when he's sacrificing it.

Now the game is just beginning to gain momentum.

Chess is not the element of Lukiia. Chess is Mycroft element and life. They are different. Their views, actions, and reasoning. Their life is the opposite reflected in a crooked mirror.

Life is a chessboard, and we are pieces on it. Some people don't understand this. Their life is a chessboard. And only they can see it. That's why they play chess almost all their lives, alternately moving black and white pieces. Black and white-as a symbol of the difficult choice that they both once made.

They have a great game ahead of them.
