Chapter 3
"Well I'm actually going to the little town of Sparta," Daniel looked back at me intrigued.
"Really me too, we'll have to try and see each other sometime. And we'll probably be going to the same school," I nodded back furiously. I actually think Daniel is an interesting character.
Daniel doesn't live on a big farm but he does help out on one sometimes. He is actually friends with the farmer's sons. He's tanned enough to show he's been in the sun for countless hours, and all the farm work makes him well toned. He has this adorable straw hat that is obviously hand made, I'll have to learn how to make one.
"Vermont sounds like a pretty cool place too, well it is pretty cold at least," Daniel was visiting some family members for the winter when he came up.
I told him a lot about my life and he's told me about his too. There's a bunch of differences but similarities too. I told him almost every thing but a few of the traumatizing things like the events these last couple days (mainly today) I made sure to leave out.
"Yeah, it's home so I get over it but I've heard Tennessee is really, really warm," he shrugged, like I'm use to the cold he's use to the heat.
"It's not too bad, we've got some snow before and we can get some pretty bad storms. Over all I think your going to like it, and sometime I have to take you horseback ridding."
"I love horseback ridding!" I said with a larger grin.
"Really because I know this field that is just perfect for a ride, and then there's a couple trails too," I could tell this is the start of a beautiful friendship, and a pretty good new life.
"I think I'm going to get some rest though, I have no idea what's waiting for me when we get there," he nodded in understanding and I got my iPod out.
I blasted some of my favorite music and drifted off into sleep. A somber sleep to be exact, I could feel noting from the real world.
"But why!" I screamed at them, it's only one little party.
"Because you were supposed to stay home, pack and do your homework but we find you at a party and a police officer is bringing you home," my mom rumbled.
"It was nothing. I just didn't have a car, Tanisha was drunk and he gave me a lift," she looked at me like I was lying.
"Oh well your not going to Hawaii and that's final," my dad yelled and my eyes widened in fear. He can be abusive sometimes.
I ran out of the house and down the road. I found the little grotto that I found when I was little and collapsed on my swing. I hate when my dad yells, I just hate it. Then with my mom it helps no more, I come here and I comfort myself. When Andrew use to live next door he'd see me running and come find me. He knew about my grotto and he'd comfort me.
I heard the snap of a twig and my head shot up, peering into the distant darkness I made out a figure. A human figure, I'm the only one that knows about this place so who could possibly be coming. I slowly stood up and backed towards my secret cave, not even Andrew knew about it. Then two arms collapsed around me from the back, I gave out a scream into his hands. Nothing made past them.
"Shhh, shhhh. It's ok Rachel," Andrews soft voice comforted me. I turned around and gave him a hug. Sure we might have broken up, but I can tell he's been drinking. Just a little bit of liquor can make him the sweetest man in the world. Then I felt some ones hand on my back and I jumped.
"It's only me," it was my new next door neighbor which I've been informed is Andrews best friend. I slowly relaxed again.
"Were they yelling again?" I nodded into Andrews chest. He hugged me tighter and we sat back down near the swing. Right now I never want to let go of him.
