His Innocent Acquisition

CHAPTER FIVE - THE OLD WATERING HOLE

"I'm marrying Mark Hamilton.."

Even though they're in a bar with loud music playing, Lexi could hear the silence around the table, she couldnt see the shocked look on their faces because she was busy sipping her drink. They all started bombarding her with questions at the same time.

"How the heck did that happen?"

"You never mentioned that you guys were dating..'

"Girls!" Amanda, who has always been the level-headed one of the group, interrupted them. " Let's give Lexi a chance to explain. Go on, Lexi.Tell us what happened." She urged her. Lexi was grateful that she has wonderful friends. That's why she considers all of them as her sisters-by-choice. She smiled at her and began narrating what happened during dinner with the Hamiltons and how her mother told her that there is no backing out because they were already preparing the documents for the merger.

Even though her SBCs aren't saying anything, she could tell that they felt sorry for her. Judging by the worried look on their faces, they wanted to know what she's gonna do next. She just sighed and swalloed her drink. She then turned around to signal the waiter to get her another drink.

"Lexi, slow down." Angela said, worried because Lexi was beginning to down drink after drink as if it were water and they all know that she wasnt a very strong drinker.

But Lexi didnt listen. She really needed to take her mind off her upcoming joke-of-a-wedding. She has dreamed of marrying to a man she loves and will reciprocate that same feeling. She was still deep in thought when she felt the waiter approach her with her drink.

She smiled at the waiter and downed her drink in one swallow. Her vision started to become blurry and her stomack began turning inside out.
She excused herself. "Girls, I'll be right back. I need to use the ladies room." Isabella made a move to stand up as she asked, "Want me to go with you? You really don't look so good."

Lexi shaked her head and said, "No, thanks. It's not really necessary." As she made her way to the ladies room, she began thinking of a plan to stop this marriage from happening.

Meanwhile back at the Hamilton mansion, Mark was going to go straight to his room to get some work done before going to bed when his father called him into his library.

"Dad, you wanted to see me?"

Richard motioned him to take a seat. "Yes. I wanted to know what you thought about your bride-to-be."

Mark was quiet for a moment. "Well one thing, she's very beautiful." He said in thoughtful manner.

"I sense a "but" here." Richard said.

Mark smirked, "But, I don't want to get married." He argued. "Not this way. I want to be able to marry someone of my own choosing."

Richard just snorted. "Yeah right. Mark, I'm not convinced of your logic. Knowing you, you have a tendency of choosing women who is after what you can give them." He said sarcastically.

Mark was beginning to loose his patience with his father. As far as he's concerned, Richard cannot have a say in his personal life. Don't get him wrong, Alexa Spencer is very exquisite. "Beautiful" isnt a word that he would use to describe her. There was something about her that intrigued him. If he had met her in a very different manner, he would definitely consider marrying her. "It's MY personal life. You can't interfere with it! As far as I'm concerned, who I choose to marry doesn't have anything to do with you."

"But if it will affect the future of the company, of course I have a say in it. And that's something I'm not willing to risk." Richard said, frustrated with his son's stubbornness.

"I'M.NOT.MARRYING.HER!" Mark shouted.

"Yes, you are! You are marrying Alexa Spencer if you want to remain as CEO of Hamilton Holdings."

"Dad, that not fair! I have worked from the ground up to make the company a huge success not only in the Continental US but also all over the world. Doesn't that even count for something?"

"It does. But, other than me, also the board members have concerns about your name being constantly on the headlines of tabloids." Richard said sarcastically. "They are seriously considering taking you out of the equation if you don't shape up. You're lucky they even have you till the end of this year to tie the knot."

"There has to be another way!" He drew a sharp breath. He can't believe this new information has the power to potentially ruin his future and his plans for the company.

"No Mark. There isn't. You are marrying Alexa as soon as it can be arranged." Richard said. "and that's final."
