Chapter 7: What Did You Do?

Hamaya's POV

I'm getting worried. Claire said that she can't get ahold of her nephews and based on the direction Snowdrift is heading, they'll run into each other. I knew Owen being anywhere near me when I went to check on Snowy was a bad idea. I shouldn't have let him even help me hide in the first place. I just have to keep running in the direction Snowdrift went. Claire demanded that she comes with me and Owen, so we're on our way towards the gyro spheres to find her nephews. When I saw the broken gate I started to worry, I have a bad feeling about this. The sphere is in a clearing and I get out and see four of the dinosaurs dead and the sphere was broken with a tooth sticking out of it. "The boys got out and started running this way," I said after seeing their tracks and Snowdrift's and I started following with Claire and Owen close behind. The tracks lead us to a waterfall that went into a pool of water down below. "Zack! Gray!" Claire yelled but Owen quickly silenced her. "Do you want Snowy coming back and eating you?!" I snapped since I know how well Snowdrift can hear, and smell too for that matter. "You girls go back to help with what you can, I'm going to track them down," Owen said, which really set me off. "No! If anyone should go back with Claire it's you! We wouldn't be in this mess if you just let me go in the paddock by myself and didn't make me hide!" I growled since Owen has done nothing but annoy me and upset Snowdrift. "I was protecting you! Go back with Claire." Owen said trying to order me around. "What are you doing?" Owen demanded when Claire adjusted her clothes to act tough. "Isn't it obvious? I'm going with the two of you." She said plainly. "No, you're not. You won't even last 5 minutes in those shoes." Owen snapped. "I think she'll be just fine. Besides, I'll be leading the way and you can protect her if you have to." I commented, and not too kindly either. I notice that the ledge Claire is standing on starts to crumble and before Owen can do anything I shapeshift into a Pterodactyl and catch her before she can fall and then gently place her down next to Owen before shifting back. Owen and Claire both stared at me wide-eyed as I started leading the way to find Zach and Gray. And hopefully, find Snowy to protect him. "Hamaya, I know you said your mother was horrible to you, but what all has she done?" Claire asked as she caught up and walked beside me and Owen walked close behind. I sighed softly and began to tell them everything that happened to me before I got a job here. "Delilah, my mother, had experimented on me as a baby. My father wasn't happy with that and was going to press charges but my mother had pushed him into the Mosasaurs tank and said he fell in and they ate him. She always favored my little brother because she wanted a boy and never wanted any girls. She was constantly abusing me, and she still does. Spending time with Snowdrift was the only way I could truly get away from her." Claire gasps softly "Hamaya I'm so sorry." Owen puts his hand on my shoulder "I'm so sorry, now I know why you spent as much time as you could with Snowdrift." Hamaya nodded softly "It's fine, don't worry about me right now. We need to find those three."

Owen's POV

I had no idea Hamaya went through all of that. No wonder she spent so much time with Snowdrift. Now that she's telling us this, I think Snowdrift was just trying to protect her. He never meant to seem aggressive. He was just trying to protect her. I'm going to make sure her mother gets locked away for this and Hamaya gets to stay with Snowdrift.
