"Nothing of value comes fast or easy; Drips of water can one day break a stone" -Taiwanese Proverb
This quote is possibly your key motivation to challenge yourself. It means that effort and hard work can eventually pay off and show results. It may take 3 months, 5 years, or 20 years, but its results will always show in the end.
One fact about most humans is that we all crave to be comfortable. We all want a stable life and have nothing too challenging to come our way, we want to relax and let life just pass. However, that is not possible. Life is complicated. Life doesn't want us to sit back and watch our lives pass. Life wants us to grow old and wise. Life wants to give us stories to tell our children and grandchildren about how we went through hardships and how we challenged ourselves willingly. Reaching beyond the border we think exists.
You can't find tricks and hacks to challenge yourself. You can't wait for your motivation to come to start your 10,000-paged essay. You can't think it's impossible. Motivation doesn't have timing where it comes, and even if it does, it's gonna be a waste of time and unproductive. So, how do you get productive and finish your work and reach new limits? The answer is simple. Just like the Nike slogan says, just do it. Just sit at your desk, play study music, and just start. Repeat the quote in your head or repeat the slogan in your head. Let that inspire you to do your work.
Once you finished the work you usually spent weeks to even start, feel inspired to try out a new lifestyle, a new attitude, a new instrument. You do what you want. If you want to learn an instrument in 2 weeks, sure, why the heck not? You can do it. Just work hard and practice.
Every famous person and inspiration human you know has challenged themselves. Even the main characters you see in movies have challenged themselves.
"I don't count my sit-ups. I only start counting when it starts hurting. When I feel pain, that's when I start counting because that's when it really counts."
- Muhammed Ali
Muhammed Ali challenged himself. He wanted to get through the pain instead of stopping when it pains like how most of us do. Always think you can do it. Constantly repeat "I can do it," in your head.
If you still don't know what to challenge yourself on, answer these questions:
What is one thing you will never attempt to do? (Ask your family and friends this question of something you would never do)
Did you take a shower? Do you prefer hot showers? Turn the shower knob all the way towards the cold side. Vica versa
What is considered crazy and out of this world? Attempt to do just that. Sky diving? Why not?
Are you ill? Do you have a sickness? Asthma? Search how you can make it better. Try to live a healthier lifestyle with a positive mindset, in the end, you would be close to normal or completely normal.
Any competitions you know of? Try out. Even if you're not interested. Take the challenge.
Why don't you switch things up? Read genres you never read before. Switch up your usual look to something more different.
Exercise? Walk/run 4k every day in the morning, at 6 am. Or earlier.
Wanna be more kind and considerate? Give compliments to random strangers you meet. Compliments make others happy. In fact, our happiness mostly comes from making others happy.
Why don't you try to learn a new language?
Even after all of these suggestions and questions, I've given you, and you still don't know what to do. Reflect on yourself and see what you can do or ask your teachers what you can do or, what you can't do.
