"Ma?" Katsuki asked as his mother practically dragged him out of the principal's office behind her, his father hurrying after them with small protests. "What did he mean I have to get my quirk evaluated? Is that bad?" He was beginning to grow worried, the word "evaluated" sounded scary to the 5-year-old.
"It's bullshit, that's what it is." Mitsuki snarled, continuing under her breath. "He's freaking five, of course he'd have a hard time with that quirk we're not all born with automatic control! Stupid bastards telling me how to raise my own kid... "
"It's nothing bad Katsuki." Masaru reassured as he picked up his son and carried him, trying to keep up with his fuming wife. "You just have to go to a doctor, but for quirks."
"A quirk doctor?" He puzzled "like Deku?"
"Well no, not quite." His father chuckled sheepishly. "This doctor is just going to see your quirk and if you might need a collar one day."
"Oh! Like you wear sometimes, Pops?" The boy grinned. "Collars are only for people that are strong! Does that mean my quirk is strong?!" Masaru and Mitsuki shared a look.
"Yes Katsuki." Masaru sighed with a soft smile, ruffling his son's hair "It means you have a strong quirk."
"Yay!!"
~~~
Katsuki didn't like the waiting room. It was too cold, the harsh lights hurt his eyes and the room smelled of disinfectant.
"I can't believe we have to get him collared." Mitsuki muttered, slouching in her seat with her arms crossed and glaring at any person daring to lay prejudiced eyes on her son. "They didn't even send us to a pediatric eval center, this place is for adults!"
"Now now, dear." Masaru soothed, pointing out some other children in the waiting room. "Katsuki isn't the only one, and besides," He looked over at the blonde boy flipping through the countless magazines in boredom. "Maybe there's a chance he won't qualify."
"Ugh, let's face it Masaru." She groaned. "Even if he doesn't, which he will, all they have to do is take one look at his school records and that's it for him." The man touched the brown metal band around his neck gently, with a faraway look on his face.
"There might be a chance." He murmured. The door leading to the back opened and a nurse in blue scrubs stood at the entrance.
"Bakugo Katsuki?" He called, the boy immediately perking up at the sound of his name.
"Let's get this thing over with." Mitsuki sighed, collecting her bag and grabbing her son by the shirt before he could dart off.
~~~
"Alright, we're just going to do some baseline tests, okay kiddo?" The man explained, leading the family of three down the halls, past various large rooms where people with quirks of all kinds were experimenting and using them. Katsuki was amazed at the blatant show of quirks, his mother continually having to nudge him along down the hall. "Is this his first collar?" He asked.
"It's his first evaluation, yes." Masaru nodded, holding his wife's hand to keep her from flipping the man off. "Do you mind explaining what some of the tests will be? He likes to be prepared."
"Yeah!" Katsuki interrupted with a bright smile. "I always get the best grades on all my tests!" He told the nurse proudly. The man beamed back.
"Don't worry," He chuckled "I'm sure you'll pass all of our tests easily."
"Of course" Katsuki huffed smugly "I'm the best and so is my quirk!" The nurse simply nodded, scribbling something down on his clipboard. Masaru's grip tightened a little around his wife's hand.
