Ryan
I tried my best not to think about Willow for a solid day, but that did not work out. I couldn't get the image of him looking down at me with disappointment out of my mind. People looking at me with disappointment should be normal by now; my family has been looking at me like that my entire life. It was only a matter of time until the look traveled outside of the small family circle. The worst had been when Paul looked at me with disappointment before it morphed into anger. I'd never forgive myself for what had happened the rest of that dreadful day.
The rest of the week I forced myself to try and stay positive, but I had started to drink a lot more. I knew I needed to tell Willow what had really happened when we were younger, but so didn't want to. But maybe if I told him I'd be able to move on.
Once Saturday rolled around I felt physically sick. Harper had just stopped coming over, mainly because I've been blowing her off all week. Danny and Hope were ignoring me too, so once again I was isolated from everyone. I needed to just live alone in the middle of the woods where I never saw anyone else. That'd be the life.
After taking a long shower, I got out before standing in front of my small closet. I slipped a pair of basketball shorts on, before thinking that looked too casual. I quickly pulled them off before pulling on a pair of khaki shorts. My eyes scanned the few shirts I had as I continued to dry off my hair. God, I needed more clothes. I ended up grabbing a peach colored shirt and slipped it over my head. My fingers ran through my damp hair before slipping on a random pair of shoes.
Grabbing my keys and wallet, I walked out into the somewhat nice summer morning before sliding into my truck. My fingers tightly gripped onto the steering wheel as I started driving out towards the country. Luckily I knew where Willow lived, mainly because his father owned one of the largest farms in the area. That, and Paul and I had tee peed his house when we were snot nosed kids.
The large yellow farmhouse was the first thing I noticed when I pulled into the long driveway. It was a really pretty house surrounded by acres and acres of land. There were multiple barns close to the house, filled with different farm equipment. I also noticed the many cars that were here. Shit, does he have a lot of family over? Is he even here?
I could hear my heartbeat in my ears as I parked and slowly got out of the truck. My legs felt like jelly as I walked up to the front door and knocked, the knock sounding loud in the still morning. I was just about to turn around when the door slowly opened.
A woman who looked a lot like Willow stared at me, her grip tightening on the door. I swallowed nervously as we stared at each other in silence for what seemed like an eternity. Her grip on the door eventually loosened before she asked, "Can I help you?"
"Is Willow here?"
She looked at me with narrowed eyes before saying, "Willow is still recovering." I felt my face pale, immediately thinking the worst. She must've seen my face because she said, "He had back surgery. I'm not sure if he's up for visitors quite yet."
"Oh. Sorry. I hope he feels better soon."
As I turned around and started to leave I could hear her sigh and say, "Wait." I turned around to see her walk towards me, her eyes staring up at me. "You can go see him but don't upset him."
Before I could say anything a little girl was suddenly running out the door. She latched onto the woman's leg, a big smile on her face. "Mom, Dad wanted me to tell you breakfast is done."
"Thank you Mina."
The little girl looked over at me, her smile fading before her eyes lit up and she smiled again. "Ryan! I've met you! Are you here to see Willow?"
