"I'd thought that'd get you to agree." She smirked pulling open a drawer in the desk and taking out an expensive looking piece of parchment. She signed it rolled it up and sealed it with a wax seal. "When you find my grandson, you will give him this, a document declaring that he is the next King to sit on the throne, keep it safe, if the wrong person gets their hands on this, they can declare themselves to rule." she held it out to me, and I took it.
"How will I know when I've found your grandson and not someone who just claims to be him?"
"I have my most trusted sorcerer going with you, he will do a blood test to make sure that it is my actual grandson and not someone who claims to be Now go enjoy the festivities, take your friend home, you have until dawn to pack and say your goodbyes." she motioned towards the door signaling I was free to leave. I turned around and walked to the doors which the guards on the outside opened just as I reached them. I ignored the stares I got as I left the room going past Alex who still stood by the drink table and over to Elenyi who was talking to a guy.
"Are you ready to go?"
"Go?" she laughed. "Lys we just got here." she frowned as she looked at me then grabbed my arm. "Excuse me Earl." she pulled me away gently till we were in the corner of the ballroom. "What's going on you're shaking."
"No, I'm fine." my voice quaked giving me away. My eyes burned as I blinked back tears. All the confidence I had had in the room was gone. "I just want to go home."
I could feel as Elenyi looked at me. I looked up at her, she looked into my eyes then nodded. "Okay we'll go. Let's go fetch the driver." She took my hand gripped it tightly and we walked towards the side doors of the ballroom which led out to the gravel courtyard.
"My ladies, what can I help you with?"
"Can you fetch our driver for us, we arrived in a black 1952 limo."
The man nodded and headed off down the courtyard probably to where all the drivers had parked.
"Tell me what's going on Lys."
"I talked to Queen Hera."
"And?"
"She's sending me away."
"What do you mean she's sending you away? Why is she sending you away? Where is she sending you away?" Elenyi questioned impatient.
I gripped the roll of parchment in my hand tighter. "She's sending me to find her grandson." I whispered while looking behind us hoping that no one was listening in.
Elenyi's brows furrowed as she looked at me. "Weren't all of her offspring killed in the war?"
"There's whispers that there is a grandson of her and Zeus, which if this is true it would make him-"
"The rightful heir to the throne." Elenyi whispered. "Why is she sending you though? Why did you even agree to go?"
"She has leverage over me, she knows about the clinic and because we're family or something like that." I crossed my arms over my chest trying to keep myself warm against the cold. Headlights turned on down the path the man had went and were slowly getting closer. Several crows landed in the grass cawing at each other and pecking at something in the ground.
"They need to leave that poor animal alone and let it's body rest." Elenyi grumbled walking over to the crows waving her arms until the seven of them flew away. Elenyi crouched down and picked up leaves to cover the body but she cocked her head to the side and got on her knees. One crow returned landing right in front of Elenyi but I swore it was staring directly at me and sent the most unnerving chill down my spine.
I quickly walked over to the crow waving my hands at it. "Shoo! Shoo!" the crow cawed loudly before flapping its wings and flying off. "Elenyi what are you doing?"
Finally seeming to unfreeze she let go of the leaves that she held in her hand picked up what she had been looking at and turned it over in her hands before handing it to me. I tucked the roll of parchment under my arm and took what looked like a piece of fabric from her but once I touched it, I realized it was a piece of old canvas. Flipping it over I almost dropped it out of shock, on the piece of canvas was Zeus and on either side of him Hera and my mother Hestia. The piece of canvas was small and worn but it was them clear as day. Hera leaned in close to Zeus smiling happily while Zeus smiled as well but his eyes looked over at my mother, a small detail you wouldn't catch unless you looked closely at the painting. I flipped the piece of canvas back over and writing slowly appeared on the back.
Seven for a secret never to be told.
A strong gust of wind blew, and the piece of canvas was snatched out of my hands before I could understand what the message meant.
"What the fuck are you two doing?!" Alex whisper shouted.
Causing both of us to jump and Elenyi let out a yelp.
"Why are you two just standing the courtyard? It's freezing out here!"
"We're waiting for the limo to arrive." Elenyi answered getting up from the ground and brushing off her dress. "Lys wants to go home."
"What? You guys just got here, you've been looking forward to this banquet for the past two months and now you're going to leave before it's barely started?"
The sound of gravel crunching beneath tires as the limo pulled caused me to look away from where the canvas had blown off to Alex who was staring at both of us confused and full of worry.
I tried to put a smile on my face but feeling how fake it felt I quickly stopped. "Yeah I really don't want to hear the announcement of Apollo being the next king. But you have fun." grabbing Elenyi's hand we walked over to the limo where the driver was patiently waiting holding the door open for us. We got in and the driver closed the door behind us before getting in the front driving off.
