Chapter Four | Aftermath

I stood frozen staring at the bits and pieces of bodies it wasn't until Liam started crying that I froze. Taking in a shaky breath I turned pushing my brothers. "Run! Back down the alley to the parking lot! Let's go!" I didn't need to tell them twice as we ran it seemed like we ran for eternity before we found the right alley and made it to the parking lot.

"I can't hear! I can't hear!" Rameses cried out holding his ears and fell to the ground crying. I put Liam down and ran over to Rameses falling to my knees in front of him prying his hands off of his ears to see that they were smeared with blood.

"Rameses calm down! Calm down! Shhh!" I heard the back door of the clinic slam open but I didn't bother looking I was too busy trying to console my brother. "It's going to be okay!" I pulled him to my chest putting my head on top of his head and hugging him like Mom used to do when one of us got hurt hoping to calm us down. I looked around and saw Liam, Arthur and Sky being tended to by Maggie and Lucy. Picking Rameses up I walked into the clinic putting him down on the bench in the back room, his screams had calmed down to sniffles. Looking at the scarcely stocked shelf I grabbed some gauze and antiseptic pouring the antiseptic on the gauze, moving Rameses hands away I wiped at his ears, cleaning as much blood as I could. Maggie and Lucy came in with the rest of the boys Maggie set Liam down as soon as his feet touched the ground he ran over and grabbed my leg. Rameses stopped sniffling as he laid down on the bench. Arthur and Sky 16 and the two oldest under me stood stoic at the door as if in shock. Arthur eyes seemed to be going a mile a minute though as he took in the back room of the clinic.  

"I thought there were no clinics downtown?" Sky asked. I ignored him turning to clean out the last bit of blood from Rameses left ear then had him turn over so I could the right. 

"That's because there aren't any clinics downtown, it's an underground one."  Arthur replied, I could feel him staring at me but I ignored it. "You work here don't you?" 

"Maybe."  I mumbled throwing out the bloody gauze taking off my coat and laying it gently over Rameses.  

"Maybe? Maybe." Arthur laughed. "Well let me remind you that Hera and Zeus made underground clinics illegal and those found running these clinics get all titles stripped away from them and sent to Tartarus." 

"I'm aware of this Arthur."  I snapped "But right now I'm not  concerned about that. I'm concerned about Rameses ears, trying to find a  fucking way to get back to the mansion, because if you haven't noticed it's a shit show outside right now it doesn't look like we're going to be able to get back on the roads anytime soon!" I sighed closing my eyes taking in a deep breath "How many did we take in from the protest?"

"20 maybe 25." Maggie replied her voice shaking slightly. "W-we could use your help." 

"Okay." I walked over to the sink washing my hands thoroughly with hot water then wiping them  off with a paper towel grabbing some gloves off the shelf I put them on. "You guys stay back here I'll come back when I can, if you get hungry there a couple of snacks in the mini fridge and the bathroom is over there," I nodded to the door  by the bathroom. "Under no circumstances are you allowed to leave this back room." I nodded to Maggie signaling her to lead the way then followed her into the main area.  There were so many people that we had ran out of seats in the waiting area people were sitting on the floor, the tiled floor which was usually bright white from Lucy mopping it every couple of hours as she was a certified clean freak, was now  smeared pink and red from the blood of patients.
