Chapter 4 - Dark Past

Ky's POV

"Jai, I don't think I should be here." I say as we approach the house.

"You'll be fine." He says, placing his hand on the top of my back. His touch sends shots through my body, making me flinch slightly. We approach the house and a boy, a little shorter than Jai opens the door. "Jai, you made it!" he shouts, opening the door wider, "And who's this lovely lady?" he asks, smirking at me. His gaze falls below my waist and Jai frowns. "Skip, Ky. Ky, Skip." He says quickly. He ushers me into the kitchen and hands me a cup of clear liquid. "Oh, I don't drink." I say quietly, putting the cup on the counter. He spins around and finds a can of Diet Coke on the side. He pours it into a cup and hands it to me, "There you go." He says, smiling, "Imma go find Skip and James, stay right here." He says sternly, pointing his finger at me jokily. I nod my head and lean up against the counter, sipping my coke. "Hey there." I hear a feminine voice say from behind me. I spin around and am faced with a little, blonde haired girl with a comb over fringe covering her entire forehead. "You like PTV?" she asks. I nod my head and she grins, "Same! You like my shirt?" she asks, pointing at her stomach. I grin, "Fall Out Boy?" I ask and she smiles,

"Yup! You been to any shows?" she asks, leaning on the counter, "I saw All Time Low when they came to England." I say quietly,

"Oh my god!" she screams, "No one ever comes to Australia, come with me and we can talk bands!" she shouts taking my hand. I quickly place my cup on the side and follow her outside. We sit down in front of an outside heater, and she begins to talk about her favourite bands. "So when I discovered Fall Out Bo-, wait. I don't even know your name!" she exclaims,

"Ky." I reply, a grin on my face.

"Well I'm Ellie and it's a pleasure to meet you." she says, holding her hand out jokily. I shake it and we both giggle. "There you are!" I someone exclaims from behind me. I quickly spin around and am faced with a curly haired boy. "Jai!" I say,

"Urh, I'm Luke?" the boy says, looking confused. I frown and then feel my cheeks heating up. So either Jai is trying to confuse me, or he has a twin. I remember him telling me he had a twin, I think. "Hey baby." Says Ellie, snaking her arms around Luke's neck. He plants a kiss on her pink lips then turns to face me, "If you're looking for Jai, he's inside." Says Luke, pointing towards the kitchen. I nod my head slightly, then awkwardly shuffle indoors, leaving Ellie to make out with Luke.

I wander the halls, looking for Jai. People are drinking, smoking, kissing and I start to feel sick. I've never been good with people but I thought I would be able to change. I was wrong. I'm still socially awkward around people, unless they like my music, like Ellie. I come to an abrupt stop as someone throws up into the spot in which I was about to place my foot. I have to get out of here. I make my way towards the front door and yank it open, letting the cold air hit my face. I run down the driveway and stop when I get to the road. Shit. I have no idea where I am, or how to get home. Got dammit Ky! Why did you agree to this? I take my phone out from my pocket and open up Google Maps. No 4G, great. "Ky?" someone shouts from behind me. I turn around to face the house and see Jai running towards me. "What are you doing?" he asks sternly, I shrug my shoulders.

"I couldn't find you and started to feel sick." I say quietly. His face softens.

"I'm sorry for leaving you." he whispers, he wraps his arms around me and squeezes my shoulders slightly. My arms hand limp by my sides, I've never talked to a boy before, let alone hugged one. "C'mon," he says, "You're house isn't far from here. We can walk but we'll go down the main road, it's safer." I give him a weak smile and he flashes me a goofy grin. He puts his hands in his pockets and begins to walk down the road.

"Tell me some things about yourself." Jai says, breaking the comfortable silence. I frown. I begin to tell him about how I've been bullied at every school I've been to. How I've never kissed a boy. How I have a tattoo on my little toe because it's the only place my mum wouldn't see. How I can play guitar, bass, drums and piano but I haven't touched an instrument in 4 years. I turn to face him and see his eyes wide, his mouth hanging open. "You OK?" I ask becoming worried. He shakes his head.

"You're incredible." He breathes. I feel my cheeks heating up and I start to wrap a strand of hair around my finger. He smiles, "Why were you bullied?" he asks, looking sympathetic. I take a deep breath, "The fact that I've never had any friends. When I was 13, I started listening to Pierce The Veil. One of the girls in my class started telling people that I was depressed and that I self-harmed, which I didn't, by the way. About a year after, I moved schools. People would grab my wrists in the halls to try and see if the rumours were true." I take a deep breath; this is where it got serious. "At my next school, I thought everything would change. But it didn't. People from my old school had spread the rumours about self-harm and everybody knew. When I was 15, people would pass anonymous notes to me in class telling me to 'cut deeper' or 'kill myself'. The funny is this though, I didn't start cutting because I knew I needed to face my problems, instead if creating more." Tears started to form in my eyes. I looked at Jai and his eyes were full of sympathy. He motioned for me to go on. "I moved again. But this time, it wasn't just to a new school. After my 17th birthday, we moved here, to Australia. I've been to two different schools, mainly because the teachers didn't like me, or people would make fun of my music. Now I'm here and for the first time in a while, I think I'm happy."

Awww, poor Ky! Sorry if the topic of depression is too harsh, I just wanted to include the idea of people judging because of music taste. Me and my friends get it, anyone else? Comment below!
