Bad Judgement

Chapter Two: Family Trouble

Lauran: "Thank you for keeping me company."
Colt: "No problem, it must have been shocking to hear about Rowan."
Lauran: "You could say that."
Colt: "Did you know he was in juvie too? And that's fact, not a rumour."
Lauran: "What did he d to end up in there?"
Colt: "Illegal fights. People would gather in an underground basement and watch him fight. They would bet on fighters and Rowan, he's a beast he would win every time!"
Lauran: "How do you win?"
Colt: "You kill your opponent."
Lauran: "What?!"
Colt: "Relax I'm messing with you, you win when your opponent loses consciousness or gives up."
Lauran: "That sounds dangerous."
Colt: "Yeah."
Lauran: "How did he get caught?"
Colt: "Someone ratted him out. Cops were there in a second. Don't go around thinking Rowan's a good guy when he's not, okay? Just because he hasn't been in trouble for a while doesn't mean he's changed."
Lauran: "Fine, I get it."
Colt: "I just wanted t o make sure because I saw the way you looked at him."
Lauran: "Like what?" I say and blush.
Colt: "Like you could save him. Trust me no one can."

*Colt got quiet and I knew that the conversation about Rowan was over. Regardless, Rowan didn't seem that bad to me. I wanted to know more about him, despite everyone's warnings. What was wrong with me?*

Colt drove me home that night, it was a quiet drive home and Kelly was passed out on the backseat.

Colt: "We're here. Do you need me to walk you to your room?"
Lauran: "No, you don't have to do that. Thank you Colt."
Colt: "Its no problem, a friend of Kelly is a friend of mine. Ill see you around."

*I walked into the main building on my way to my room and its dark and quiet, looks like everyone's getting their sleep for the first day of school tomorrow.*

*Huh, is that--*

Rowan: "What are you doing here? I told you I don't want to see you ever again!"
Karen: "Come on, you don't mean that. I miss you"
Rowan: "Sorry to break it to you, but i haven't missed you at all. I'm glad I got away from you house once and for all."
Karen: "You're just saying that."
Rowan: "I mean it. Now get the hell away from me before i call the cops on you."
Karen: "You wouldn't do that."
Rowan: "Oh yeah? Try me."
Lauran: "Sorry I was looking for my dorm."

*As I was eavesdropping I tried to stay as quiet as possible but I tripped over my own feet and they noticed it was me, I had to play it cool.*

Rowan: "Hey babe, there you are!"
Lauran: "Huh?"
Karen: "Babe?"
Rowan: "Yeah I have a girlfriend now."
Karen: "Don't be ridiculous, you don't do girlfriends."
Rowan: "That was before I met her."
Lauran: "Um, I'm--"
Karen: "I know you're lying."
Rowan: "Go away Karen, you're embarrassing yourself."
Karen: "We're not done yet."
Rowan: "Yes we are."
Karen: "I'm your mother, you can't push me out of your life like this!"

*His mother? Isn't she dead?*

Rowan: "Your not my mother."

Karen doesn't say anything back and just walks away with anger displaying on her face.

Lauran: "What was that about?"
Rowan: "Nothing, go back to your place," he said rudely and walks away leaving me alone in the hallway in the dark.

*What just happened? That was so weird.*

I continued to head back to my dorm room before anything else weird happened.

*I can't believe he left with no explanation. Whatever, its not like i care. Ugh, i smell like bonfire and booze. I really need to take a shower.*

5 minutes later...

*Woah!*

Lauran: "What are you doing in here?! Get out!"
Rowan: "No."
Lauran: "Rowan! You need to leave!"
Rowan: "I need to know what you heard, and don't pretend like you didn't eavesdrop on me."
Lauran: "I heard enough."
Rowan: "I don't appreciate when people eavesdrop on my conversation."
Lauran: "I'm sorry it wont happen again. I feel really exposed, give me a minute to change into some clothes."
Rowan: "Go ahead, although I like that look on you."
Lauran: "Ill be right back," I said and laugh at his remark.
