Bad Judgement

Chapter Four: Haunted

* Its been a week since I last spoke to Rowan. I know he's been avoiding me, and I cant help to think it's for the best. Maybe we weren't supposed to be friends in the first place. So why is it that I cant get him out of my head?*

I was headed to the cafeteria to get lunch just before my next period when I hear someone calling my name from behind.

Ethan: "Lauran, over here!"
Lauran: "Hey guys."
Ethan: "You want to sit with us?"
Rowan: "She cant, that spot is reserved for Mindy's friend."

*My eyes went to Rowan and the girl standing next to him. Rowan was just looking at me as the girl was giggling against his neck. It felt like a punch in the stomach. Suddenly I wasn't that hungry anymore.*

Lauran: "Its fine, I'm waiting on Kelly."
Ethan: "Come on, at  least sit with us until she gets here."
Rowan: "She said no."

*Rowans eyes locked with mine and he raised his eyebrows. A sign that I should just walk away. For some reason, that made me want to do the opposite, just to annoy him.*

Lauran: "you know what, id love to sit with you."
Rowan: "Great," he sarcastically replied.
Mindy: "Uhm, who are you?"
Rowan: "She's no one."
Lauran: "No need to be rude."
Rowan: "I wasn't rude, I was honest."
Lauran: "Jerk."
Ethan: "Guys, cut it out. You're being ridiculous."
Rowan: "Whatever."
Lauran: "So, any plans for the weekend?"
Ethan: "Rowan and I are actually planning on visiting the haunted house nearby!"
Lauran: "That sounds scary!"
Rowan: "Its probably not even hunted at all, I bet its all rumours."
Ethan: "No way man, my cousin went there and he almost went insane."
Rowan: "Doesn't count if he was insane before."
Ethan: "Yeah but still. So, Lauran, you wanna come?"
Rowan: "Ethan!"
Ethan: "What?"
Rowan: "Its supposed to be just you and me. Besides its probably too scary for her."
Lauran: "I speak for myself, thank you very much. I'd love to come."
Ethan: "Great!"
Mindy: "Why does she get to tag along and not me?!"
Rowan: "Of course you can come too, Minday. In fact, id love it if you came along!"
Mindy: "Really?"
Rowan: "Yeah."
Lauran: "Gross."
Rowan: "What was that?"
Lauran: "Nothing. Listen I need to go, but ill see you this weekend then?"
Ethan: "You got it! Ill text you the details."
Lauran: "Great! Bye"
Rowan: "I seriously hate you dude."

*The week went on without anything exciting happening. Before I knew it, it was Saturday.*

I got a text early Saturday morning from Ethan.

Ethan: "Hey Lauran, still up for tonight?"
Lauran: "Yeah, of course!"
Ethan: "Great! Lets meet up around 8 p.m. and wear something warm its chilly outside."

I got a fright when Kelly walked up to me out of no where

Kelly: "Who are you texting with?"
Lauran: "Ethan."
Kelly: "Oh, tonight is that night you're going to that haunted house right?"
Lauran: "Yeah!"
Kelly: "I cant believe you're going to do that!"
Lauran: "I'm not scared, its probably nothing anyway."
Kelly: "Just don't bring any ghosts with you home."
Lauran: "I wont don't worry."

*Now what does one wear to a haunted house? I decided to wear my pink turtle neck with a jean and some comfortable sneakers.*

Ethan: "Hey Lauran, you look great!"
Lauran: "Thanks."
Mindy: "Aren't you going to give me a compliment?"
Rowan: "Uh, you look nice."
Mindy: "Just nice? It took me an hour to do my makeup."
Lauran: "Could've fooled me."
Mindy: "What was that?"
Ethan: "Uh, should we get into the car?
Lauran: "Sure."
Rowan: "I'm driving."

10 minutes later...

Lauran: "Woah that's one creepy house."
Rowan: "Scared? Because if you are, I could take you back."
Lauran: "I'm not scared Rowan. Stop trying to get rid of me."
Rowan: "Fine whatever."
Lauran: "Where are the others?"
Rowan: "Great they went on without us."
Lauran: "This is your fault."
Rowan: "Sure blame this on me why don't you. Come on, they cant be far ahead."
