Chapter 3

Cole's POV

I stood up lazily and fixed my bed. I checked the time and it's almost 6 AM already. I changed to my jogging attire for my morning run.
I am still sleepy but I need to do it today because I missed it yesterday.

"Holy shit!" I saw Kai sleeping on the staircase. Is he not aware that this spiral staircase has more than a hundred steps?

I think the sound of my footsteps woke him up.

"Good morning, sir."

"What are you doing there? Do you know that you are restricted on the third floor?"

"That's why I am on the staircase. You can't consider this third floor."
Okay, he was right.

"What do you want? It is still early to annoy me, Kai. You should still be sleeping at this time."

"Guards call time is 5:00, my parents are already awake so as the future..."

"As the future leader of Elite, you should at least be taller so hurry up and sleep."

He stood up. "I am taller than my classmates at the same age."

I noticed that he is also wearing his jogging outfit.

"Don't tell me you're running with me?"

"You got it right, sir." He wears a dry fit long sleeves and shorts.

Hell.

He really followed and ran with me. I can see that he is having a hard time breathing but still forcing himself to run at the same pace as I am.
I tried to slow down a bit.

"Kai." Damn it.  How can he be stupid?

He stumbled over a hump and fell down.

He started crying.

"Hey, does it really hurt that much?"

"I am embarrassed that I fell down when I said I'll be protecting you."
I laughed at him.

"Is that really important to you more than your wound?" I carried him to the bench and rinsed his wound with water.  "What are you even thinking that you even stumbled there?"

"You."

"W-whaaaat? What d-do you mean?" Did the always confident Cole just stutter in front of a kid?

"I mean, I am thinking of how to be tall like you. Why Sir Cole?"

"Stay here I need to buy something for that. Don't ever leave this bench. THAT'S AN ORDER!" He only follows me when I say that line.

I ran to the pharmacy and bought stuff for his wound.

When I returned to the place he is still sitting there, silently waiting for me.

I cleaned his wounds, applied the ointment, and covered it with gauze...

"Done! Can you stand up?"

"Of course, sir. It's just a scrape."

"But the way you acted earlier seems like you broke your bone."

"I said I am just embarrassed."

"Let's go." I pulled his arms and carried him on my back. Who would have thought that I'll piggyback this piglet? "How heavy."

"I can walk, sir."

"I know. Just shut up there or I am going to cut your limbs one by one."

"I know you can't do it."
