She pushed open the familiar deep, brown oak front door, furrowing her brows with worry when it simply... swung open.

Tentatively, she stepped inside, glancing around briefly, before edging further inside her childhood home. The furniture was pristine, the walls and paintwork intact, fire ablaze; everything was normal.

That was, until she heard a blood-curdling scream.

Without a second thought, she dashed upstairs, towards the cry. The faster she ran the longer the staircase climbed, spiralling and spiralling, seemingly never-ending. But suddenly, she was at the top.

This looked nothing like her house. It was dark, and cold, it looked... dead.

Slowly, she reached out a hand, and just as her fingertips grazed the brass knob, the door flew backwards off its hinges, hurtling across the room before landing with a crash and shattering across the floor.

She truly thought she might vomit at the sight that kay before her.

Three gaunt bodies, lying on the dusty wooden floorboards in a perfect row, looking almost... peaceful.

All of a sudden, the three pairs of eyes flickered open, pupils dilated, blood red veins snaking through the whites.

"This is your fault." The first spoke. "You did this to us."

"You didn't protect me." the youngest said.

"Your just a burden." the last added, venom dripping from her voice, "we never cared about you, no-one loves you."

Each word felt like a stab to her gut. Salt poured into the wound. Twisting the blade in her heart.

Slowly, the bodies rose to their feet, and in an almost zombie like manner, began edging closer to her, chanting their taunts over, and over again...

"Stop... please... stop... i'm sorry-i'm sorry." she begged, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Please... stop... i'll do better... i promise... i'm sorry..."

"...ke ...p.... wa... up... wake up! Please! Come on!" Lily frantically shook her best friend, desperately trying to arouse her.

With a terrified gasp, Christy shot up, drenched in cold sweat, tears blurring her vision.

"Hey, hey..." Lily soothed, wrapping her arms around the shaking teen. "It's okay... it's okay, just a dream... i'm here now."
