I take the small chest and dagger with me and swim to where I meet Maree, hoping she has an use for the chest and more importantly can help me with my arm. Maree and I agreed to meet in the evening today, the sun is currently already starting to set so I hope she will be there to meet me soon.
As I alive, I see Maree walk along the edge of the river walking towards the place we usually sit, wrapped in a long coat as it's a chilly evening. I quickly swim towards her, she smiles at me as she spots me. Her smile quickly fades as she notices my painful expression.
"Lynn! What's wrong?" she asks worried as I reach the edge of the river. I show her my arm, the makeshift bandage slowly colouring red. "I got slashed by some sailors..." "why were you near sailors? That's dangerous!" Maree says with a tone of mixed worry and anger, it makes me feel bad about it. I guess I looked sad because Maree strokes my hair caringly. " Sorry, I didn't want to make you upset. I don't want you to get hurt," she speaks while reaching out her hand to pull me up. "Come, let me look at it."
I put the wooden chest and dagger on the ground first, then take her hand and get pulled up out of the water. The cold air hits my wet skin, instantly making me feel cold. Maree seems to notice this, as she takes off her coat and puts it on me. She carefully takes off the makeshift bandage to look at the gash. "I will need to stitch and bandage this, but I only have bandages at home. Would you come to my home with me?" Maree says. I nod, feeling anxious about potentially getting caught. "Don't worry, my house is at the edge of the village so people won't see us and I will carry you" Maree speaks as she gets ready to pick me up, I quickly grab my things to bring with us. She lifts me up with seemingly little trouble, she must do a lot of heavy work. The sun has completely set at this point. The coat covers most of my tail, which makes me feel a little less anxious about other people catching us.
"I would really like for you to meet my sister, I would always tell her stories about mermaid and how cool they are..." Maree speaks while we walk. "I would really like to meet her too, her name is Ashe right?" I ask. Maree nods, then looks at the wooden box "what's in there?" "I don't know, I got it from the sailors but it's locked" I reply.
After a bit of walking we reach a small wooden house. Maree opens the door as fast as she can with me still in her arms. She brings me inside, setting me down on a chair. The room is being lit by an oil lamp placed on the table. Placing the wooden chest and dagger on the table I look around the room while Maree looks trough some cabinets. There's a small kitchen area, with storage space and a small furnace. On the opposite end of the room there's 3 doors, one of which slightly ajar but it's too dark for me to see inside.
Maree comes back with a metal box in her hands and sets it on the table, then pulls up a chair and opens it. Inside are medical supplies. "My mother was a nurse, she thaught me how to stitch clothes and also stitch people" Maree says with a slight chuckle.
First Maree cleans the wound, then starts stitching. She periodically looks at my face with a smile, even though the pain nearly brings tears to my eyes her smile makes me feel more at ease. After Maree finishes stitching she grabs a bandage and caringly bandages my arm, tying the ends and placing a soft kiss on it with a big smile. "Thank you, I feel better now" I say as I lean towards her to kiss her lips.
"You must be tired, do you want to get some rest?" Maree asks me. I nod and yawn, noticing how tired I actually am. "Oh, let me get you some different clothes first, it will be a cold night." Maree walks into the room with the ajar door, coming out a moment later with long wool robes. She helps me change into it, then carries me into the other room. In the room is a bed and some storage for clothing. Maree places me on the bed, laying down next to me and pulling the sheets over us. Finally laying in a bed again feels really comfortable. Maree gives me a quick kiss and hugs me. "Good night, I love you" She says softly. "Good night, I love you too" I reply with a smile before quickly dozing off to sleep.
