The sheriff was in a temper, lashing out at everyone who crossed his path. Hood's men had waylaid another wagon, belonging this time to Lord Winchester. The sheriff needed Winchester to help him in his plot to kill the King, and after that in gaining control of John. Winchester had three sons who would join the plot, but now he would have to appease the man in some way.  He called for Gisborne. "What news have you?" Gisborne informed him the carriage had been found, overturned in a ravine. Horses and gold were gone from it. "It will need a good bit of work," he explained. "I have ordered repairs to begin."

"And is ROBIN HOOD in my dungeon?" Vaisey snarled.

"You know he is not," the Black Knight said quietly, awaiting the abuse sure to come. Instead, "Leave me Gisborne. Go back to your leper,"  as he dismissed his lieutenant. He needed to secure Winchester's signature on the pact he had prepared for the 'Black Knights', as he called his allies in crime. He was unsure of Gisborne, since his marriage to that woman, and yet he needed him to do exactly as he planned. So, he sent him back to his land, until Vaisey could complete his plans. Gisborne would fall in line. He would make sure of that.

Guy wasted no time leaving Nottingham. He had not found anything out about the plan to kill the king, but he was sure Winchester was involved. He rode quickly, looking forward to spending a few days in his new home. There was much to be done. Guy was not one to indulge in self- reflection, but he was settling into marriage quite well, and he knew Kes was a big part of this. She was so full of surprises. So full of life. And, he marveled to himself, she seemed to enjoy sharing it with him! He had not really had a home or family since the fire took his mother and little sister.  While he still missed them, he now felt a lightness within that grew with every step closer to the Manor. He was still uncertain of the outcome of this marriage. He was still not willing to admit to his feelings, or to fully accept that Kes might possibly care for him.

He smiled to himself, thinking of the things he and Kes would do when they were alone together tonight. He was about half a mile from the manor and it was getting dark with a dense fog settling in, when he heard a hoofbeats in the distance. He saw a ghostly horse and rider coming at him through the mist, and he put his hand on his sword, ready for anything. The rider spotted him, and pulled the horse to a stop. They looked at each other a moment through the eerie fog, then a bright laugh, and Kes reigned her mount next to his.

"Well, Prince Guy, fancy meeting you on the road!" She grabbed his waist and leaned over to kiss him.  He laughed and returned the favor. They rode a bit further, and she turned and left the road heading into the trees. He followed. She dismounted, and looked up at him, expecting he would do the same. They led their horses to a small stream, then sat against a tree and looked at the view. Dusky dark, misty, it looked like another world.

He was about to tell her of his day when she moved over him, straddling his lap, and putting her fingers over his lips. She began unlacing his leather jacket, with kisses in between the lacings, running her hands over his upper body left exposed. Next she unlaced his breeches, pulling them off, then removed her dress, leaving only the silky chemise underthing. She returned to his lap, and this time the kisses were in earnest. Both were so ready the climax brought groans of pleasure from both of them.  She held him for some time after, wondering what he would think of her boldness. He smiled, kissing her softly. "Woman, you are amazing!" She laughed, kissing him again, and told him, "I think I rather like this being married."  "Might?" he asked. "I am thinking it is certain!" That brought that smile, the one that never failed to make him happy.

Neither noticed the still figure watching from the undergrowth. He had been observing the Manor when he saw her ride out alone, and they had wandered to the spot where he lay hidden. Robin had thought of putting an arrow into Gisborne's heart until the moment Kes had embraced him. He could never risk hurting her.  But he knew now she had meant it when she said "willingly."  He turned and quietly left them. They, in turn, gathered their things, dressed, and rode home together.

"And how was your day with Sheriff Douche?" she asked later, at supper.  Guy gave her a piercing look and said, "Kes, I would appreciate it if you would stay away from Vaisey as much as possible. He is a very dangerous man, and not quite sane."

"I am certainly not afraid of him," she said calmly. "I can see that!" Guy said hotly. "And so can he! Vaisey would like nothing better than to humiliate you in some way, to discipline you. But he is also afraid of antagonizing John. So please, try to stay away from him in public, as you cannot seem to stop yourself from conflict with him!" She gave a sigh, pursed her lips, and stabbed at  the venison on her plate with a vengeance he did not miss.

"You no longer need him Guy," she said carefully after a moment. You have land, wealth, title.  You could tell him that running this estate was taking up much of your time."

Guy sighed and said, "I am not ready for that yet. We have some protection from his interference because of John, but I need to be where I can keep an eye on him. He would not hesitate to plot against us.  Being there helps me to stay informed about his plans for Nottingham. "

Then, as he finished his wine, added,  "If I am away, I want you to keep Tuck close. Lord Winchester is in Nottingham, and I know he has his eye on you as well. He watched you closely at the Palace that first night in London.  Tuck can earn his keep that way."  Kes laughed at this, "I will be sure to tell him you said so!" She was amused and pleased he had noticed the other man's attention to her.

"I suppose you are right about Vaisey," Kes told him later that night in bed. "I will be more careful. I promise." He smiled and wrapped himself around her as she drifted off.

Guy fell asleep that night and dreamed of all the things Vaisey could do to them.
