Ethan, Benny and I sit outside of the principal's office, next to a girl with music blasting from her ears. Benny was sat in between Ethan and I but he kept leaning over me to talk to the girl. "So, you, uh, you get sent here often?" Benny asks the girl, smiling at her. "She doesn't want to talk to you, B" I sigh out.
"How could I let you convince me to rewire the PA system?" Ethan scoffs to himself. "Because I'm incredibly charming." He wiggles eyebrows flirtatiously at the girl. Ethan and I share a look. "Seriously? Dude, the Hulk would turn pink before she talked to you." "Pink with envy." "I can't handle you sometimes" I groan out.
"I'm never rewiring anything for you again." Ethan complains. "Okay, what good is a ghost alarm in school if it isn't insanely loud? How was I supposed to know it was gonna blow out the principal's window?" Benny motions to one of the broken windows looking into Principal Hicks' office. "I should have known if we ever got sent to the principal's office, it would have been mostly Benny's fault" I sigh.
"Young lady?" We hear principal Hicks yell. Benny takes that as his chance to lean over me again. "You might want to go in. Trust me, you do not want to tick him off." "Yeah, especially when we have to go in there after you." Ethan adds. The girl just continues to sit there, staring blankly ahead and blasting her music.
I go to pull her earbud out, only to feel it fighting with me. "Oh, snap" Benny says in shock. "Don't do that" She says in a monotone voice, pushing it back in her ear. Benny and I share a surprised look, though I don't think Ethan noticed. "Ah! That is some nasty earwax!" Benny exclaims. "We are running out of daylight" We hear Hicks yell from his office.
"Ha! Ha! Ha! You, uh" Ethan stands, grabbing her arm and helping her out of her seat. "Better go in there" He guides her into the office. Ethan sits back down as we stare after her. "Pff! That girl was a total 'butter ears'." Benny shakes his head. "Butter ears?" I ask confused. "I liked everything 'but her ears'." Benny says and I shake my head at him. "Wow! How are you still dateless?" Ethan laughs.
"I don't" Benny starts laughing until he realizes it himself. "Know..." He adds on a sad note. "It's best just not to bring it up, Ethan" I warn him as Benny frowns off into the distance. Ethan looks away awkwardly and I pat Benny's shoulder. "I'm sure you'll find someone soon" I assure him.

We kneel on the front lawn of the school, pulling out weeds, wearing gardening gloves and aprons. Benny couldn't seem to get over the whole earwax thing though. "Oh, man, that earwax was epic! I'm serious. Ryleigh couldn't get the earbud out" Benny brings up to Ethan, who looked skeptical. "Yeah, he's right. It was like fighting with me. Yanking it back in" I add and Benny motions to me.
"Earwax can't do that, guys." Ethan points out. "Hence my unease, but that explains why my charm fell on deaf ears" "More like smart ears" I correct and Benny glares at me. "Yeah, maybe she just ignored you. You know, like all the other girls do?" Ethan brings up. "If they're running from you, they're not ignoring you." "I don't know, Benny. That's a big red flag"
"Hey. guys!" I perk up as I notice Sarah. "Getting punished for your ghost alarm thing, huh?" "Sarah, can I ask you a question?" Benny suddenly asks. "Do girls have like way more earwax than guys?" "Oh, my God" I mutter to myself. "Is it a puberty thing?" "Do guys have fewer brain cells or is it just a Benny thing?" Sarah wonders. "Actually, it's a Benory thing" I chime in, standing up and dusting myself off.
I follow after her as she starts to walk off. "So, what are you doing?" I ask curiously. "Have to do some work on my computer. You should be helping weed though." Sarah motions back to them. "You can't walk by us and expect me not to follow after you" I complain. "As cute as I think it is, you better get over there before Hicks catches you. I'll see you later" I kiss her cheek as she walks away and I smile to myself, going back towards them.
