Two Weeks Later
Spencer POV

Elle handed me back the rubix cube with another pattern for me to solve. As I began it Hotch rose and briefed us on the case.

"Two adults had been found dead in their home but their child was missing." Hotch said as JJ passed out our files then presented the case. "This is the fourth reported occurrence of this type of incident but the offender crossed county and state lines for all these abductions. No child comes from the same county. In this most recent case the mother's sister, Lynn Fitzgerald, had come to take her nephew Deklan to school with her children as usual. She found the bodies at approximately 7:30."
"We all know how this works, the first 24 hours after a child abduction are the most crucial. It's been approximately", he checked his watch, "5 hours since the murder and abduction. Wheels up in 20."

On the plane

"Ok everyone Martinsville is a small town with what is usually an extremely low crime rate." Hotch begins.
"Usually?" Elle questioned.
"Yes the reports from Martinsville's Sheriff Department are mostly things like teens stealing candy from a corner store or other small rebellious acts like that." I filled in.
"What makes Martinsville our focus point?" Derek asked.
Gideon answered," This crime scene is different. The others there were no witnesses, no one to miss the victims, they were small families that were only known as missing because they didn't show up for work or at school."
"They had no close family and little to no social life. And the unsub knew that. He was stalking them. For weeks maybe even months. He is extremely meticulous."
"But not this time." Derek said while looking back to the file.

"Hello I'm SSA Aaron Hotchner and this my team." He proceeded to introduce us individually.
"It says here in the ME report they had been dead 2 hours by the time the aunt found them." Derek informed the rest of us. "If he killed the parents so no one would miss the child then they must not have known about the aunt's schedule." I follow along with the file in my own hands.

"That means this family was targeted randomly"
"Yes so what about this family attracted the unsubs attention? I mean it could have been anything."
"I think we need to find out more about the other victims targeted by the unsub before we can profile possible attractions."
"Call Garcia ask her to find all the occurrences of crimes like this, unsolved murders of parents with their child missing. Tell her to go back 15 years."
"Got it. Hey Babygirl I need you to..."
