emily walked down the hallway towards the doors of the bullpen. "thanks cruz. this is bad."

rossi walked alongside her and responded, "i know, it doesn't make sense"

they both walked into the bullpen to jj, alvez, and garcia talking.

jj immediately noticed the look of concern on emily's face. "what's wrong"

emily didn't know how else to say it, besides saying it directly. "reid is in jail."

garcia, in shock, responded, "jail?"

emily nodded. "in mexico."

"what the hell is he doing down there?" jj asked.

"i don't know, i didn't talk to him."

"what's he being held for?" luke asked.

"drug possession, with intent to distribute." rossi responded.

"what type of drugs."

"cocaine and heroin"

"oh my god" jj exclaimed; her hands flew over mouth.

she tuned out from the rest of the conversation. she was shaking with worry. how could this be happening? is he not sober anymore? is he okay? is he safe?

jj walked into the round table room with a look of relief mixed with worry on her face. "spence's mom is okay. the home nurse he hired said all is stable."

garcia responded, "oh thank the stars."

luke questioned, "how long did he tell the nurse he'd be gone?"

"uh three days."

emily understood. "that sounds reasonable. after the palm springs case, reid said he had to get back to houston to talk to his mom's doctor"

"well, houston is only a 5 hour drive from the border," tara pointed out.

jj put her hands on her forehead, pushing some hair out of her face. "usually i can read him. i can't believe i didn't pick up on any of this"

"the question is, why did he go down to mexico?"

"and why does he have narcotics?" rossi asked.

garcia responded, "yeah. exactly. that- that— he wouldn't- he wouldn't do that. you guys i'm not gonna share any secrets i'm not supposed to, but those drugs were planted on him."

emily asked the group, "so what would make him risk everything?"

jj knew that answer. she knew everything about him. or so she thought. she still couldn't believe that he didn't tell her about this. "his mom," she responded.

garcia, confused, asked, "yeah but she's here. and she's safe." she read the arrest report off of her computer. "it says here that reid was involved in a high speed chase"

"what? he hardly ever drives"

garcia continued. "none of this sounds like him. it says he was wearing jeans, he was really confused. this- according to the arresting officer he was really high on something."

this shocked jj. "no, no he wouldn't do that. not after what happened with tobias hankel."

"who's that?" luke asked.
