VERSE 2

The next day at school, I met up with Kent in the cafeteria. We grabbed our lunches and found a table near the window. The sun streamed through the glass, casting a warm glow over our meal as we chatted about our upcoming basketball practice and weekend plans.

As we were finishing up, I noticed Lily and another girl walking toward our table. Lily smiled and waved as they approached.

"Hey, Ja!" Lily called out. "I brought a friend along. This is Jenna."

Jenna was a tall girl with an easygoing demeanor. She gave me a friendly smile as she joined us at the table.

"Hi, Ja," Jenna said. "I've heard a lot about you from Lily. It's great to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Jenna," I replied, returning her smile. "How's it going?"

"Good, thanks," Jenna said. "Lily was telling me about the basketball team, and I thought it would be cool to come say hi."

As we chatted, Lily leaned in closer and said, "By the way, I wanted to ask if you could give me your social media handle. It'd be nice to stay connected."

I nodded and quickly gave her my Instagram username. Lily entered it into her phone, and I saw her send me a follow request. Jenna seemed to be genuinely interested in the conversation, but I could sense a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

Kent, who had been listening to the conversation, chimed in with a grin. "Looks like you're becoming quite the popular guy, Ja."

I chuckled. "Yeah, it's been an interesting week."

As we continued chatting, I noticed a girl sitting a few tables away who seemed to be observing us intently. Her expression shifted from curiosity to something else, and I couldn't quite place it. She was someone I'd seen around school but hadn't really interacted with.

Suddenly, she stood up and walked over to our table. Her approach was direct, and she seemed slightly agitated.

"Excuse me," she said, addressing me with a slightly irritated tone. "I couldn't help but overhear. You're really giving out your social media handle just like that?"

I looked at her, slightly taken aback. "Uh, yeah. I guess so. Is there a problem?"

The girl's gaze flickered to Lily and Jenna before returning to me. "It's just... well, I didn't realize you were handing out your info so easily."
