Chapter 17
We pulled into the parking lot of the Calm Wood's Church and entered the building. My parents walked forward to greet the other adults while I stayed back and waited for Kieran. His presence at my house was no longer secretive and most of the time my parents knew when he was with me. They just didn't know that after he would walk out the front door, he would walk to the side of the house and climb up to my window.
I liked knowing that my parents approved of Kieran, especially since I was going to spend my Immortal life with him. Even my dad had warmed up to him and now completely approved of him. He didn't even mind that he was at our house all the time and that everywhere that I went, he went too.
Now looking around the church, I noticed Nathan sitting in the corner of the entrance. His face was gloomy and I couldn't help but feel guilty.
Without even processing it in my mind, my feet started walking towards him. I stopped when I stood before him.
I gave a small smile and said, "Hi."
He looked up and forced a smile of his own. "Hey."
Inside I sighed. What had happened to our easy going friendship? "How are you?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Okay, I guess. You?"
I nodded. "I'm good..." The words tasted bitter coming off my tongue. I most certainly was not okay and I desperately wanted to tell him this. Rollin was killing people left and right, Rogue wanted Kieran to become a pack leader, and Nathan hated me. But I couldn't bring myself to say all of this. There was no use.
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked frowning. He sounded like he was genuinely concerned and that was all the encouragement I needed to spill me guts.
"Everything's wrong." I said, tears forming in my eyes.
Nathan quickly stood up and motioned for me to follow him into another room for privacy.
Once he closed the door behind us, I let it all out. "Rollin's been killing a lot of innocent people because he wants revenge on the town."
"He's the one that killed all those people?" Nathan asked angrily.
I nodded. "Yeah, and Kieran and I have desperately been trying to think of a way to stop him." I tried not to notice how Nathan flinched after I said Kieran's name. "And then this new werewolf girl, Rogue, said that she had a plan. She came to my house and told us about a pack in Kentucky whose pack leader was suicidal and all depressed and they were looking for a new pack leader. She suggested Kieran become their pack leader but Kieran doesn't want to become pack leader and possibly end up commanding the other werewolves to kill people. But if he doesn't become pack leader, then we won't have a way of getting rid of Rollin!"
I stopped talking to catch my breath. By the look on Nathan's face, I could tell he was processing all of this. "What are you going to do?" He asked.
"That's just it," I said with a sigh. "I have no idea. But at this rate, Rollin will have the whole town killed off in a matter of months!"
"Why doesn't this new werewolf chick just become their pack leader then?" he asked.
I shrugged. "She said she didn't want to be responsible for other people for the rest of her life. She'd rather just be led by someone else."
"Sounds like a chicken," he muttered under his breath.
I shook my head. "She's actually really brave and nice. She comes off like she doesn't care about anyone else but I know she does."
"What did you say her name was?"
"Rogue," I answered. "Why?"
He crossed his arms. "I think I should have a little chat with her, maybe we can figure something out. Come up with another plan."
