Chapter 16
Rogue started getting up from her chair.
"Where are you going?" Kieran asked.
She turned to look at us. "Well we certainly can't discuss my master plans in front of all these people!" she said.
Kieran raised an eyebrow and his lip curled into a smile. "I thought they were just dumb humans?"
She rolled her eyes at him. "They are, but I don't want to take any chances of this getting back to Rollin. Now is there somewhere you can think of where we can go to talk about this where Rollin won't overhear?"
I nodded my head. "We can go to my house."
Kieran frowned at me. "I don't think that's such a good idea," he said hesitantly.
"Oh, it's not like I'm going to break into her house after this!" Rogue exclaimed. "We're on the same team, after all."
Kieran took hold of my hand. "I don't know if we can trust her yet." His voice said in my mind.
"We don't have a choice." I sent back. Then to Rogue I said, "Let's go."
I heard Kieran sigh but I continued walking out with Rogue. After a second I felt him walking behind me. That's when doubt started settling into my stomach. What if we couldn't really trust her? Had I really just offered to let a strange werewolf into my home?
I pushed the unsettling doubts away and continued walking to the car in the parking lot.
It was weird with Rogue sitting in the back of my mom's car while we drove to my house.
When we finally pulled into the driveway, I wasted no time opening my door and stepping out of the car. I opened the front door to my house and waited for Kieran and Rogue to follow in behind me.
"Nice place," Rogue muttered.
"Thanks," I said quietly. I watched her eyes look around the house. "Should we go upstairs?" she asked.
I shook my head. "We can talk right here," I said walking over to the couch in the living room.
"What if your parents walk in?" She asked.
"They aren't home," I answered. Why did she seem so nervous?
"I just don't want them to overhear any of this. If I've learned anything in my two hundred years, it's that you can't trust anybody."
I just looked at her. "Then why trust us?" I asked. Why did she trust us? She didn't even know us.
She plopped down on the other couch and leaned back to get comfortable. "Because I've been observing him," she said pointing to Kieran, "for almost a hundred years and so I know he always does the right thing. And for the little time that I've been observing you," she looked at me, "I know that you are unconditionally in love with him and you would do anything to keep him and this town safe."
I smiled a little. It was refreshing to know that someone thought I was a good person. Now the only question was could we trust her?
"Let's just hear your plan already," Kieran said with a little bite behind his voice. I could tell he wasn't happy that she had been observing us without his knowing.
"Someone's snippy," she muttered.
Kieran took a seat next to me and sighed.
Rogue rolled her eyes. "Alright, you're right, we should get started. So I guess I should start with the pack in Kentucky."
