Chapter 11

When I finally make it home and the tears have stopped coming, I walk up to my room, anxious for Kieran's comfort.

Once I see him, I run up and throw my arms around him. I take in his fresh scent, burying my head in his shoulder. He strokes my hair and rubs my back soothingly.

"Are you okay?" Kieran asks curiously.

I stopped crying a while ago and my eyes aren't even red anymore. "I'm fine," I lie. "I just missed you is all."

He lets out a small laugh, bringing a smile to my lips. I love his laugh, it's so warm and rich. "I missed you too, Heather," he says, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead.

I look up at him and can't help but know I've made the right decision. I love Kieran with every ounce of my being and I can't wait to be with him forever. But I plan on waiting until the moment is perfect to ask him to make me Immortal. And now, after just crying, was definitely not the right moment.

With my problems with Nathan finally behind me, I could truly enjoy Kieran's company. I felt like I had when I first met him, my body jittery with happiness, and my thoughts entirely of him.

Almost a week had passed since I told Nathan my decision. And each day that passed, I grew happier and happier until I thought I was going to burst from pure joy. School was actually fun and I loved spending time with Hailey. She became my best friend, other than Kieran of course, and when I wasn't with Kieran, I was with her.

We shared almost everything together, though I still couldn't share my biggest secret, that my boyfriend was a werewolf. That was a secret I could never tell.

Since today was Friday, I was super excited about getting out of school. When the final bell rang I walked quickly over to my locker and grabbed my things. I waved goodbye to Hailey and then walked out to the parking lot.

Kieran was waiting for me there, his body leaning against the side of my car. He seemed to have noticed my new found happiness and it was rubbing off on him. We were both as happy as we could possibly be.

I walked over to him and gave him a quick hug.

"How was school?" He asked casually.

"It was good," I say stepping out of the embrace.

He walks over to the passenger side and opens the door for me. I smile at him and step into the car, taking a seat. Kieran hurries over to the other side and starts the car. I have to admit that for having just learned to drive a few months ago, he's an incredible driver.

He drives us home where we spend the next hour and a half working on my homework. He helps me study for my upcoming tests and then we head down stairs for a quick snack.

He's also gotten good at cooking. While I'm at school he spends his time here busy learning to catch up with the world. He practices cooking and tries making new recipes of his own. It's especially handy for when we're all alone for dinner and he makes a romantic meal.

My parents have been busy lately and I've been too chicken to introduce them to Kieran. But now since I no longer have any problems hanging over my head, I thought it would be about that time to introduce my parents to the boy I plan on spending the rest of my life with.

"What do you think?" I ask after suggesting to Kieran my idea about him finally meeting my parents.

"I think it's a fantastic idea," He says pulling me into his arms. I love the fact that no matter how cold it is outside, he will always be able to keep me warm. Honestly I could stay like this forever, with my head rested on his chest. I smile as I realize that after he makes me Immortal, I will be able to.

I bite my lip as my parents enter the house, the cool winter air following in behind them. A shiver runs through me and I cross my arms for warmth.

"Hi sweetie!" My mom greets as she closes the door behind her. "How was your day at school?"

"It was fun," I say. My mind was reeling with how I was going to bring up Kieran. I couldn't just drop the bomb on them without warning, I needed to work my way up to it.

"I'm glad," she says. She takes off her shoes and both of my parents place their coats on the coat rack. "How does fish sound for dinner?"

"Sounds good," I say absently. Just spit it out, just tell them! But I shake my head to myself. Now is not the right time.

So I wait an hour until dinner is finally ready. We all take a seat at the dinner table and I look up at the ceiling. I know that above me Kieran is in my room, no doubt able to hear what I'm about to say. Just knowing that he's listening makes me feel a little more comfortable.

"Did anything new happen at school?" My dad asks as he cuts into his fish.

I shake my head. "Not really." Tell them! Tell them now, just get it over with!

Dad nods and focuses his attention back to his meal. I take a bite out of my fish and glance at my mother. She's delicately wiping her mouth with a napkin.

Under the table my foot taps impatiently. I don't know how to start.

I take a sip out of my water and then set the glass down on the table a little too hard. "I have a boyfriend." It bursts out of my mouth before I can stop it.

My dad chokes on his water and my mom tries hard to successfully swallow her food.

"What did you say?" My dad asks as though he had heard me wrong.

I bite my lip and my hands fiddle together in my lap. "I, uh...have a boyfriend."

Dad's eyebrows raise and I can't look at him. Instead I look at my mother who seems slightly pleased. "And who is this boy?" My mother asks.

"His name is Kieran." I answer.

"How long have you known him?" My dad asks in an almost angry voice.

I shrink in my seat. "Since September."

"And how long have you been dating?" he asks.

I shrink even lower. "Since September," I say quietly.

He raises his eyebrows. "Seriously?"

I nod and try not to hide under the table.

"Well I think that's wonderful," my mom says. I give her a grateful look. I can always count on her.

"She's barely a child," my dad argues.

I glare at him. How was I still a child? I was sixteen and almost done with high school!

My mom lets out a small laugh. "Peter she's sixteen, she's hardly a child anymore! Besides, I've been waiting for her to bring home a boy. I'm just surprised it took so long." Then she looks over at me and asks, "How old is he?"

Without glancing at my dad I answer, "Nineteen."

My dad's about to say something but my mom cuts him off with a cold warning glare. He stops and then rethinks his words. "He's a little old for you, don't you think Heather?" he asks. I can tell he's trying hard not to have a fit.

I shrug. "I'm almost seventeen. It's only a two year difference." But I can't help smiling to myself. Kieran's been alive for over two hundred years. I wonder what my dad would say if he found out about that!

I hear a sigh come out of my dad as he tries to calm himself down. "And where is this boy from?"

Crap, what am I supposed to say to that? "Um, he lives about ten minutes from here," I lie.

My mom nods and I take the moment to say, "I was actually wondering if maybe he could come over for dinner tomorrow. He's anxious to meet you guys and so I suggested dinner tomorrow night. I hope that's okay?"

My dad looks like he's about to say something else when my mom butts in, "That sounds wonderful! I can't wait to meet him!"

I smile and we all return to our meal. Although I'm slightly worried about how my father's going to handle it, I'm excited for the dinner tomorrow. I love that my parent's are finally going to be able to meet Kieran and that our relationship can be all out in the open now.
