When I come into the dining hall, I am taken aback by how beautiful it is. It is ornately decorated with gold and light dusty pinks; the curtains are all pushed aside allowing the floor to ceiling windows to let in all the light. I take in the large garden in the courtyard with a river so beautiful the multicolored reflection shoots shades of colored lights into the hall, bringing it aglow. When I sit down to the left of her, she does not even glance at me, she sits at the head of the table in a beautiful dusty rose dress that hangs close to her body, almost flowing. Her elbows are sitting on the table with her hands, laced into one another and her chin is thoughtfully resting on them.
"Hello," I say, she does not turn her head but looks at me under her eyelashes. "Hello" she responds with. Each time I see her she has little to say, I know she dislikes me; dislikes all our military occupation here. "We should get to know each other if we are to unite our nations," I say smiling at her. She smiles and laughs turning to look at me full-on, responding with "Oh! So, you do not wish to unite us sir?" with one eyebrow raised, and a suppressed smile."No," I say, "I only meant I would like to get to know you. We can do something like 20 questions, it's in the old um... game from Earth." She perks up at that, "Oh! Earth, your natural home, right?" "Yeah, it's like your planet, but yours is clearly more beautiful," I say winking at her. "So, what's your question military man?" This took me by surprise, I did not expect her to play along. "Uh, what is your favorite color?"
"I would say my favorite color is grey" she answered. We have just been served dinner, it's two big, juicy looking sausages and grilled vegetables, a remarkably simple meal, for a room this size and people who are being served them, other than the help that seems to be sitting with us. I cut into my sausage and it bursts open with juices, plopping it into my mouth I realize it's fantastic! I don't know how it can be sweet and savory at the same time, making my mouth water more. "Queen de Cova, this is great! What is this?" I asked to shock from the food to respond to her question, pointing at the sausage with my fork.
"It's klip, such as a pig well I think it's the right, translation to the pig". As I'm eating, I remember her answer, "so grey, I would assume that everyone here likes to color pink because this room is layered in nothing but it". "No pink is standard here, if you have not forgotten." Oh yeah, looking at her I had almost thought she was like me, I glanced around the room, and saw different shades of pinks, magentas, and purple, but she is the palest pink here, almost human. " I would not say it's unique though, I stare at grey all the time on my ship on the station everywhere, but I guess living on Viggs, you do get tired of the same color, as I do on the station." She does not respond, nor ask me a question, she just delicately eats her food. She looks thoughtful, a small frown line creases her brow. When I finish my plate, I am sad. "Will there be another course?" "No," she says simply. "Okay what about dessert?" "No" again, none of her no's are mean, they are light, like a gentle blowing on my skin, but they irritate me, nonetheless.
It seems there is not enough food, therefore we are here, not even the top people have enough food, and they only eat simple foods, like common people, this is ridiculous. This woman runs this world, and this is how she is treated...how she eats? Hell, even the people who served us our food are sitting at the same table as we are, I am surprised we didn't have to get it ourselves. I am getting more heated just thinking about it.
"This is why you need us you barely have enough food for yourself let alone this entire planet. I know you hate the military occupation, I know you hate the alliance but do you see how this is the best for your people... best for everyone" I am heated just getting a simple fact out there, I hardly noticed I was gripping my knife so hard that the whites of my knuckles were showing. I look around to see guards and servants have all either stood up or moved closer to me.
Without standing she raises her voice and eyes to meet my own, both in anger and in authority "My people, my planet! We were doing just fine before your military brutes came in here our food is now stretched out to feed them and they take more than they need! I choose to eat like this and we choose to live like this so that others can have food and resources! I am full, everyone here seems to be full because we do not overeat such as you filthy kilps do! Meat and vegetables are valuable resources they take time to grow and your people just eat and eat and eat! This has never happened before in all of Viggs history, military man, you tell me who is helping who?" She stares at me, her pink skin making the blush across her face redder than any human would be. The deep greens of her eyes transfix me, and I am lost in her enraged beauty. I feel pity for her, she cannot be this delusional.
I am rooted to my seat lost inquestions on how she is this... delusional. I watch her give out apologies to everyoneand leave for the garden, still stunned. I am going to talk some sense intoher, so I apologize to the people as well, and tell my tac-force to stay and Ifollow her out the door.
