Marinette's POV
Adrien's hands low to my hips while I rested my head and palms on his chest we continued to sway and spin. We quietly talked to each other and simply enjoyed the moment. The moonlight overhead illuminated the courtyard, the paper lanterns blowing in the wind. Glimmering lights and calm music, a perfect evening in my eyes. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
I listened to Adrien's heartbeat. It was steady and calming.
Bum bum. . . bum.
Bum bum. . . bum.
I could feel someone watching us, similar to a sixth sense. I didn't even care. So what if they watched us, I was enjoying my moment with Adrien. At that moment I should have turned around to see who had been watching us. Maybe then the night would have gone smoother.
I didn't know this but, Chloe at that moment was ordering Sabrina around and planning how to sabotage my night. Her ice-cold blue eyes glaring at me. Her hands on her hips. She lowers her vision and notices Adrien's hands on my hips and gasps in disgust. Jealousy and envy overtaking her.
Chloe had been just as excited as I had been for this dance. She had been planning scenarios in her mind of her and Adrien dancing. She never would have thought that Adrien would choose me for a dance. Chloe had been offended when Adrien walked in and immediately made his way to Alya and Nino, not even looking her way.
She had dressed up so nicely, Chloe had chosen to wear a strapless, yellow dress with a short skirt. She had put her hair into a messy bun and applied a glittering lip gloss. Her eyeliner was perfect and her eyeshadow highlighting her face. The heels she wore made Adrien only a few centimeters taller than her. Chloe was truly beautiful on the outside but inside her heart was cold and hardened.
Chloe hadn't always been this way. She had only hardened after her mother left for New York without a good-bye. Chloe's mother, Audrey, was mean and never considered the feelings of others. Who knows, maybe if her mother had been in Chloe's life instead of in another country Chloe would have been a kind-hearted and understanding person.
To be honest I think Chloe had been jealous of me in a large amount once. It had been when Audrey had chosen me to come to New York with her, but Chloe had been wanting her mother to bring her along for years. This had been the only time I had seen Chloe show any feelings. I truly felt sympathy for the snobby girl, until she called me untalented and annoying.
"Here is your drink Chloe!" Sabrina said full of love.
Chloe snatched the drink from the red-haired girl's hands and took a sip. Sabrina let out a little squeak at the sudden aggressiveness. Chloe sprayed the punch from her mouth in disgust.
"What is this common folk liquid? It tastes awful! Don't you people drink sparkling water?" She snaps at Sabrina in frustration.
Sabrina shook her head and explained to Chloe that there hadn't been sparkling water at the refreshments table. Chloe wasn't listening to the girl's pleads though, she had a thought occur to her. A horrible one. She shoots me and Adrien yet another glare her lips curling into a smirk.
The slow dancing period ends and Adrien and I are back to moving and jumping along with the fast-paced music. Laughter and joy can be heard throughout the courtyard. Adrien took hold of my hands and began to swing me around and pull me close to him. I gasp at the sudden action and give into him. Once the song is over Nino makes an announcement.
"Hey, my dudes and dudettes! We are going to take a break from the music so I am taking any recommendations now! Take this time to refresh yourself and make your moves!" He says with a wink.
Adrien scoffs at Nino's last remark and I chuckle.
"Want to grab a drink together? I am parched and could use something to munch on." I ask Adrien with my usual sweet smile.
He nods, "Sure! That is if we can make it through the mob of our peers!"
I laugh at his joke and he takes my hand. Pulling me along he dodges and weaves through the many people towards the table near the stairs. Adrien laughs and grips my hand tighter to make sure he doesn't accidentally let go and lose me. My coin purse flies behind me from our fast pace.
Poor Tiki! I think.
We make it to the table and Adrien skids to a stop, I almost crash into him at the sudden halt. My arms flail and I try to catch myself.
I squeak Adrien's name.
He turns around to try and catch me before I fall. His face an inch away from mine. We stand like that for a second not sure what to do. It takes every inch of self-control not to melt into a puddle.
"We need to stop falling into each other's arms. Someone could begin to think we're together!" He says jokingly with a smug grin on his face.
I laugh nervously at his comment. Flustered and embarrassed, I pull away and stand straight tucking my hair behind my ear.
"We wouldn't w-want that now w-would we?" I manage to say.
That's a lie, I think, He may not want that but I do. . .
(OOP! What might you mean by that Mari?! LMBO)
Adrien wrings his hands. His green eyes darting around the room nervously.
I giggle at his appearance and pour each of us a cup of punch. Instantly forgetting the recent event between us two. My head leans backward and I gulp down the fresh-tasting liquid. The music starts up again but Adrien and I decide to sit together and eat some sweet treats. We chat as our feet lead us towards the folding chairs. I look away from his entrancing eyes and ahead of us. Chloe is making her way towards us, there is an evil look in her eyes and her lips are curled into a sinister smile. The blond's hands are hidden behind her back. I ignore her and continue my conversation with Adrien. She grows closer and doesn't change her expression or her line of sight. Chloe's eyes stay focused on her target. . . Me.
Chloe is only a few feet away and takes the opportunity to put her plan into play. she pretends to trip over her foot and shrieks. Her hands now out from behind her back, revealing a cup of the raspberry pink punch. I see the whole moment in slow motion, yet I do nothing to stop it. I can't, I just cover my face out of reflex. The cold drink splatters my chest dripping down my dress.
"Oops," Chloe says flatly.
My vision blurs, heat rising to my cheeks and my palms sweating. At the moment so many emotions rush through me. Embarrassment, rage, sadness, and emotional pain. It had taken me weeks to create this dress, all that hard work was just thrown out the window. The punch would stain the fabric permanently. I was on the verge of tears. I wanted to slap Chloe!
Adrien gasps and scowls at Chloe. He knows she did that on purpose. He places his hands on my shoulders to try and comfort me but I pull away.
I put my finger in Chloe's face, "What gave you the reason to do that!? I put so much work into this dress, not that you would know. You have everything handed to you at your demand and don't feel any emotions!"
I ran out of the room, my hands covering my face. My tears falling to the ground from the overwhelming emotions. I couldn't even tell you how much embarrassment I felt at that moment. It was unmeasurable and filled me up more by the second.
I could hear calls of my name from Adrien, I could also hear Alya cussing at Chloe and Nino trying to keep her from waking the citizens of Paris.
I make it to the stairs leading to the entrance doors and sit down on them. Choking on my tears I sob. I was wet, embarrassed, lonely, and cold.
All I could think was, Adrien saw me like this, he saw me cry, he saw me yell.
As I scream in agony and frustration to the sky I hear footsteps approaching me. I don't even bother looking up and continue to sob. I didn't care who it was. This night couldn't get any worse. I was very wrong.
